Summary:
I purchased this hoping it would be easy enough for my child to play - a the easiest level. While the easiest level is simple for a experienced player, don't expect your 8-year-old to beat it. Also, the cartoon-chessboard is very difficult visually. The 3-D angle makes it hard to see all of the pieces, and since each is a cartoon character, it is even more difficult. There is a standard chessboard that can be viewed, but it is too dark - even on the Advance SP with lighted screen. A child may find the cartoon animations of pieces being captured entertaining. In short, if you are looking for a chess game for the advance for your child, go with Chessmaster for Advance and set it at the easiest level. This is easier to beat than Dexter at the lowest level. Not only that, but Chessmaster lets you choose from many different levels of play - complete with a photo of your opponent. It will challenge the Chess Master in your family while providing a simple game for the kids. In addition the chessboard is easy to view and pieces are distinct, plus there are numerous boards to choose from. Dexter, you're a cute cartoon but weak chess game.
