Summary:
What would happen if you took Baldur's Gate and dummied it down into something that even the least familiar gamer could enjoy? Wait, not only that, but mixed a bit of Diablo in too? Well, Dark Alliance would certainly be the result. At times it almost feels like an actual Baldur's game, but the fact that neither Black Isle or Bioware ever touched the development process is painfully obvious. This is a "lowered to the lowest common denominator" project indeed. Yes, don't let the franchise name fool you, this is NOT the Baldur's Gate feel of yore. Thus, if you are a hardcore Baldur's fan, you will be dissapointed with the complete lack of complexity and nonlinearness in Dark Alliance. That said, if you are looking for a nice and simple dungeon-romp action-rpg, you might actually enjoy this title. See, if you're sick of cutesy Japanese import GBA RPGs and want something dark and serious to play on the subway, then this is your baby. It could be a lot better, but it could be a little worse.
