Konami Castlevania: Circle of the Moon Gameboy Advance Action Review

Konami Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

Description
That bloodthirsty vampire is back in action, nestled deep within his castle and guarded by an army of undead demons waiting to hurl themselves at any human intruder. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is an all-new installment in the Castlevania legend, designed specifically to take advantage of Game Boy Advance's 32-bit color graphics.

Summary:
I had only recently heard of Castlevania. The first time I tried it out was on the N64 and it was called Castlevania 64 (BIG MISTAKE). Gameplay was full of crap, graphics were full of crap, everything was jam-packed with hot, juicy CRAP! For a while, I stayed away from Castlevania. Then, my cousin suggested Castlevania: Symphothy of the Night. I really didn't want to play it after my awful experiance with the N64 version. But this was different, he told me. It was in fact different becuase it was 2D. So I gave it a shot and let me tell you something: I had never felt this satified playing a 2D game, or for that matter a video game, for the longest time. I was an instant Castlevania fan. So now I hear talk about a Castlevania for the GBA and its relationship with Symphothy of the Night in terms. This was good news indeed.

Summary:
Konami’s classic vampire-hunting adventure series has been a favorite since the days of the NES, when the series got its start. The series has yet to venture into the realm of 3D, but that’s okay; each incarnation of the series has given us 2D side-scrolling action at its best. The last installation of the series, Castlevania; Symphony of the Night, continued that trend, and it proved to be one of the console’s best titles. So naturally, the GBA version was looked at with great interest.

Everything that has made the Castlevania series so popular is prevalent here in Circle of the Moon, Konami’s first GBA offering. The classic 2D gameplay the series is known for, combined with the non-linear level progression of the NES classic Metroid, combine to make this one Hell of a ride, even if it does prove a bit cumbersome at times. Expert players should be able to make it through this adventure in about eight hours, which is just fine for a handheld adventure title. CotM controls just like any Castlevania game should, as you attack and jump with the two action buttons. Controls are responsive and there are enough extras thrown in to keep you playing long after you’ve finished the game.

Graphically, CotM is very nice, making nice use of the available hardware. My only complaint in this regard is that the game is a bit too dark and it can be hard to see at times. Still, everything moves along at a nice pace, and this is a nice looking game overall.

At the end of the day, Castlevania; Circle of the Moon is a perfect example of how a 2D side-scroller should be done today. It’s challenging, fun, pretty, and by far the best GBA launch title out there. Everyone, not just Castlevania fans, should check this game out.

Summary:
Well this game is full of killing snakes, bats, skelaton and three headed dogs. It's a ok game.
You collect stuff here and there such as dash boots and special cards to upgrade you whip (whitch is very cool). Though if your family (or you) don't like slightly demonic stuff such as vampires you might not want this game.

Summary:
Castlevania has always been an upset to me. With a tedious story and boring gameplay; this game lacks grandeur in every sense of the word. The plot stays similar to those Castlevanias of the past, meaning it is very simple and flat-out plain. Quite frankly, unless you're a big supporter of the past dracula tales, you will dislike the game.
