from independent retailer Summary: I had the honour of playing StreetFighter 2 for the GBA and came-away very disappointed in that altho' the presentation was dead-on the game sold-out with an illogical control method and easy play modes to compensate. Not good enough really. As for Mortal Kombat GBA - please don't go there, I don't have the stomach!!
When I first-heard that Tekken was being prepared for the GBA I must admit I doubted the little console - I mean, how in tarnation are you going to cram THAT much in?!!
Altho' at heart I'm a StreetFighter I love the Tekken games too - the special moves are way faster to put-together, the combatants truly have different styles, and the dodge'n'punch gameplay was mastered here to the full.
To a certain degree, Namco have succeeded. You have a certain amount of characters (all from Tekken 3 please note), a handful of different play modes, and little else.
Presentation-wise Namco had to meet a middle ground and I think they've succeeded to a certain degree. The game looks and sounds like its doing the biz, and the gameplay is fast, intuitive and easy to learn. If you have someone else with a GBA and the game too, then you can take them-on with it, and have mighty battles aplenty!!
At the cost of a GBA version however the gameplay is to a degree simpler, and you will find people 'button-mashing' to win - annoying by far. 10 Players also isn't quite enough, and I think they could've upped the extras rather than one extra player!!
However, whatever the cost, Tekken Advance works, its fast and pleasureable, there's enough to keep a single player going, in two player there's an eternity of laughs and jibes, and overall it entertains and proves quite a blast, if only a short-term one.
The videogame equivalent of a Milky Way - you can eat it between meals without ruining your appetite!! Report this review >>
