Summary:
Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Return of the dark king. This game is based on the 4th season around episode 17. If you are a fan of this show you will be very happy with the script, it is true to the show right down to Anya,s witty out of place comments. There are a few things that the game does have in it that make you ask questions, like why do i save the same guy over and over again, in the same level, im really getting sick of saving him, and he never gives you anything good, except a book, that you take back to Giles.

Summary:
In short, this is a solid little game at a reasonable price (10 dollars lower than most new GBA games). It is not the most spectacular, the most original, or the longest lasting game out there. However, the game runs smoothly, is free of bugs, is fun to play, and is challenging enough at the hardest level to satisfy most hardcore gamers. Since it has not gotten much attention on the big game review sites, I thought I would offer my impressions to prospective buyers here.

On the whole, it is much better than most of the TV/movie based GBA games out there. If you are a Buffy fan, you will not be disappointed. The game is well thought out and well put together and captures the spirit and humor of the show.

As you might guess, the user plays as Buffy (the only playable characters) and goes around Sunnydale killing vampires and other assorted ghouls and goblins. She must also rescue people in distress. There is a plot that is loosely based upon themes from the TV show and which unfolds as you move from level to level.

In between levels, there are text dialogs between Buffy and her friends where the plot is fleshed out. These dialogs make use of screenshots from the TV show. They do add some atmosphere the first time around, but get repetitive when you want to repeat a level. I wish they had provided an option to skip them

Replay value:
The plot and levels are linear, so after you beat the game, there is a probably a limit to how many times you will want to do it over again. However, the game is long enough that you are not likely to beat it in a single sitting. I have put in six or seven hours spread across several days and am only on level six. The game will take a while to beat and going through it a second or third time should still be entertaining.

There are 16 main levels, plus some timed bonus levels in between. The levels seem to get larger and increasingly complex as you move along. There are also three difficulty levels.

You may save your game at the end of a level, but you cannot save it part way through a level. If you use up all your lives, you may still start form the last level you saved. However, you may not go back to previously completed levels except by starting over from the beginning.

If you are a fan of the Buffy TV series, I would recommend the game without hesitation, especially considering its low retail price. You will have a good time with it.
