, from Whittier, CaliforniaSummary: When the introduction of Pokemon began not so long ago, consumers did not expect for this new franchise to take over American homes under several disguises from clothing, playing cards, cartoons, and even their own movies! The next “big thing” has finally struck and soon enough the word “Pokemon” became a household name. Before the franchise stole the hearts, and hard-earned greens, from billions of people there came a subtle little Game Boy cartridge called Pokemon. It even had two colored versions of it, which became the biggest stir since the announcement of the next Zelda for the N64. These versions were undoubtedly successful and soon enough children and adults alike started to memorize and recite the names of the little critters. The demand was big and the company realized that they could earn so much more if they tweaked their “money maker” up a notch. With better coloring, polished characters, and more focus on the overly popular Pikachu, Nintendo is sure to hit it big with the crowd if they were to conceive yet another version, and with the help of Game Boy Color it was definitely an inevitable winner. Then arrived Pokemon Yellow, the latest and most anticipated title of the franchise. People bought it, cherished it, hated it, compared it, and the list of compliments, insults, and petty remarks goes on. In addition to that, older and much more “mature” players tend to perceive this as a kid’s game, which is in fact not. It is another RPG that is clouded by cute little characters running around saying their names a couple hundred times. The true question is “Is this game worth the money?” The answer lies upon the eye of the beholder so there IS no definite answer to that question, but here’s MY story…
Personally, I see Pokemon Yellow for Game Boy Color an experience like no other RPG of the console. It’s also not entirely RPG based, but a well-rounded mix of adventures, thought-provoking puzzles, and a slice of fantasy action. So score one for diversity, and if you enjoy catching and training critters and letting them battle against other trainers with their creatures then this game will satisfy your need for that. I enjoyed this game tremendously and fully took advantage of the extra options and secret inserts hidden strategically within the game. “What makes this game so great,” you ask? Well, it is a combination of great game play, comprehensible controls, and several graphical improvements. Hey, don’t let me convince you, judge for yourself! Great job Nintendo.
