from Music for a Song (greatest store on the planet) Summary: What can I say? It's a 2D fighter with a dreamteam cast of characters. The game layout is classic, the gameplay is precise and fast-paced, and the backgrounds and sound will also take you back to the beautiful days of arcade and super nintendo.
After playing this game for a few hours, I learned the basic attacks for my favorite characters. It's also great to try out new ones and see how well you can use them.
You can play arcade mode, with either a single, 3 on 3, or ratio battle. There's survival mode where you pick one of two options to see how many opponents you can defeat. Along with options, color changing, and an unlockable (and still unknown to me) modes, there's versus mode where you can play against a friend for hours and not get bored. This replay is increased even more with 3 on 3 games and ratio games.
There are 44 fighters to begin with, half from capcom and half from SNK I believe (although I do miss a few from Capcom, namely DeeJay and Fei Long). There are 3 unlockable characters, but I've not a clue how to get them.
The characters maintain their 2 dimensional look, but the backgrounds are more 3 dimensional. The battle screen really looks good.
Oh yea, you can save replays of battles, and I found that very cool, because I had a battle with my friend in which we had a really neat double KO with kicks, so I had to save it. The system file takes up 2 memory blocks, while each replay takes up 9. You can save up to 3 replays as well. That's no problem if you have a memory card 251, but with a memory card 59, you may find yourself with no room for replay saves.
My biggest problem with the game is the fact that there are only 10 battlegrounds, and one you have to unlock. It would be neat if at least half of the characters had their own place, but then again seeing the same old backgrounds from SFII may get boring. The sound isn't always the same at the stages, however, so it adds some variety.
I recommend this to ANYONE who loves fighting games, especially those who cherish the days of street figher. Report this review >>
