EA Sports Smashing Drive Gamecube Racing Review

EA Sports Smashing Drive

Description
Smashing Drive is a fast-paced action racer based on the Namco arcade hit. With numerous power-ups including battering rams, turbo rockets, and buzz-saws, as well as countless pathways and shortcuts throughout the big city, getting from point A to point B will be the most fun and excitement a cabbie, or anyone for that matter, has ever had behind the wheel.

Summary:
Don't let the lack of "hours played" fool you - it took me two hours to finish Smashing Drive, which is a ported version of what you see in some arcades. Although the GC version is made by Namco, this game features none of the elements found in their more successful franchises - stuff such as innovative gameplay, non-stop action and good replay values are nonexistent. What you WILL find with Smashing Drive is shallow, repetitive gameplay, linear levels and a lack of extra features that make this title not just a waste of a purchase, but a waste of a rental as well.

Summary:
Smashing drive is an arcade type game where you race a cab agianst another cab while crashing through everything in site. Sound fun? Well it is, for about 1 hour. Smashing drive was fun at first but it really got old quick. There wasn't enough to do and some of the gameplay elements really were pointless.

Summary:
In the amount of time it takes you to read this review, you could have finished Smashing Drive by now… a little exaggerated, but not by much. Yes, believe it or not, this is the same company that brought us Soul Calibur and the Time Crisis series. Unfortunately, Smashing Drive is a mediocre arcade game that translates into a bad console game. The gameplay is quite shallow. The levels are over in about 2 minutes. And there is about 3 hours of total gameplay to complete the entire game, if you pause in between for lunch. If you skip lunch, the game only lasts about 2 hours.

It might be worth renting Smashing Drive if you are interested in some mindless fun. And the gameplay is simplified to be accessible by younger gamers as well. But this game has absolutely no value as a purchase. Spend your money elsewhere.
