from EB Games Summary: I just beat the last regular campaign of Battalion Wars. When all said and done this game is just a barrel full of fun to play. This is definitely the most under reviewed game on the Gamecube. Perhaps I'm saying this because I am a diehard RTS gamer and a console fan as well. So judge me as you want. At least I'm being honest and telling you how my personal feelings may effect my opinions of this game. Unlike many of the reviews I've seen that give no justification for the review scores they have given.
Battalion Wars is fun from start to finish. There are missions where you've got a handful of troops and you have to advance your position on the enemy. There are missions where you have a huge army and you must defend a stronghold at all costs. There's even a mission where you have a fleet of aircraft and must provide air support for your general's army who is invading an island!
There is always stuff going on in this game! You'll be trying to bring anything resembling order to a full scale waging battle. Every unit in the game has strengths and weaknesses. All of them have uses at one point or another. Every soldier you have is valuable and when you lose one you'll either get sad or cry revenge on your sworn enemy.
It's all done in a fun cartoony way though which is great because it's a simplistic console RTS. The game never takes itself too seriously. It's a short game if you just plan on "beating it" from start to finish. But you can also unlock 4 bonus missions by replaying the previous missions and trying to achieve a higher score on them. You are scored on time, enemies killed and the number of your own units that survived the mission. The game is relatively easy once you get the hang of it. You'll get your entire army annihilated a few times. But when all said and done Battalion Wars doesn't have an extreme amount of difficulty. At least not if you're fluent with the way RTS plays on a keyboard/mouse. Report this review >>
