, from Adelaide, South AustraliaSummary: I love first person shooter games, so as soon as I saw the box for this one sitting on the shelf it looked quite comical and entertaining so I decided to grab a copy. Not a bad idea, that was, but not a terribly good one either...In Redneck Rampage, you play a farmer called Leonard who has had his property taken over by aliens and hostile farmers who want your land. In the process, they have kidnapped your farmer buddy Bubba, and you must rescue him. The entire game is set in the country which makes for a nice change in the 3D shooter era. Most of the time your backdrops are trees and bushes which can get very repetitive, which is the first problem with this game. It just isn't varied enough, you see the same thing over and over again. The graphics are respectable, they are quite similar to DUKE 3D graphics, and the enemies are still cardboard cut-out figures! The weapons in RR are all your typical ones with very little improvement or originality from other 3D games. For example, shotguns, pistols, rifles, etc. Pretty average stuff in anyone's world. Ammunition for all the weapons is pretty damn stingy as well. Most of the time I found myself using my crowbar because the game didn't give me enough ammunition to use anything else. Health is restored by eating pies or drinking whiskey which is pretty original, but where it all falls down is that there are 2 metres on your status display which monitor your stomach and drunkenness. If you drink too much you get drunk, if you each too much you can't move properly. Pretty annoying if you ask me, but still original nonetheless.Throughout the entire game, it never gets serious once. You always cry out stupid lines like "HUSH PUPPY!" when you pick up and new weapon, and it all gets very repetitive. At least Duke 3D had some variety in speech, this game has none whatsoever. If you are a dedicated 3D fan, you might find some sort of game in here. But there are so many great 3D games out there like Half-Life which kick this game to a pulp. Stick to those instead. Report this review >>
