Summary:
I borrowed this game from a friend as I had never heard of a computer game where you controlled a 'real' person. She told me that she could never play this game alone as it was so scary - so I was intrigued. I have never yet been scared by a horror game - phantasmagoria is the exception. Never before have a played a game which has made my heart beat ninety to the dozen and caused me to leave the room during one particular cut scene! (I'm talking about the Trophy Room mirror scene - you have been warned).
As this game is so old, none of my other friends have heard of it but when I explain it to them, they all want to borrow it. I have played the game 4 times now and it hasn't lost any of its excitement for me.
This one isn't for kids and don't play it with the lights off!

Summary:
If I'm not mistaken, it was the first game (or one of the first) to use REAL PEOPLE, i. e. actors to play the main character and the video sequences in an adventure game. Only for this the game deserves a price. It is highly original and... well, not really for children. The game has ATMOSPHERE, and for me it's the most important thing. It is scary. Believe me, the things are much more scary there than ghost pirate LeChuck. This is rather the direction of "Gabriel Knight".

Summary:
This game is a mixed breed. To some people, it's half good and half bad. To the serious adventure gamer (Like Me), it's a very good game. Made by Roberta Williams (Creator of the cute and nice little King's Quest series) comes a violent and dark game not intended for children. Adrienne Delaney, a novelist, and her husband Don Gordon, a photographer, buy an extremely large and gothic mansion/castle in Massachusetts. How they afforded this castle and why they chose it is beyond me (Maybe the blood dripping from the walls didn't get to them.) Contolling Adrienne, you wander around the mansion making comments about everything. Soon you find a hidden chapel, in which you find out this house is (Surprise!) haunted. You unwittingly release a demon who takes over Don, turning him into a psychopathic, make-up wearing, invulnerable, agressive photographer dude. This game is surprisingly easy and is VERY short for a seven (7) Cd game. I mean, the only puzzle in chapter two (2) is buying drain cleaner! However, the plot is very good and the graphics were good for it's time. One of the weird things are that Adrienne can carry a fireplace poker, a hammer, and a large book in her pockets at the same time. Hmmm. Buy Phantasmagoria if you're in a weird mood.
