from Chips and Bits Summary: From experience, I’ve found that time and time again - games based upon popular movie licenses tend to be not very good games in and of itself. Often times, these games offer only minimal gameplay fun, and do not sell very well. Usually only managing to get a few unwitting people to buy the game only in recognition of the movie title and only come to regret it when they being to play the game. Such games often demonstrate that the designers lack even the least bit of imagination to come up with a game concept of their own. However despite this continuous trend, Blade Runner has somehow still managed to deliver a game that is oddly enjoyable. Though not quite perfect.
The game itself is based upon the old 1980’s movie bearing the same name. The setting is a dark and foreboding version of Los Angeles (imagine Los Angeles today but with more smog and no sun) set in the year 2019. Humans, being the lazy beings that we are, build replicants. These replicants, genetically engineered to appear human but endowed with superior strength and agility are used as cheap expendable off-world work force. After a bloody mutiny, Earth declares replicants illegal under penalty of death. To enforce this law, a new branch of law enforcement is created. This branch, Blade Runners, are tasked with the tracking and extermination of any trespassing replicants on Earth.
While the game posses some minimal flaws, the overall design of the game and solid story and gameplay make this game a must have. This is just the kind of innovation the starving adventure genre needs.
