Price Paid:  $15.00 from Online

Summary:
I have had this game for years. I played the demo back in 1996, but didn't get the full version until several years later (it was very hard to find).
This is a great game. The only game I have played which comes close to Death Rally is GTA 2, and even then, Death Rally is better. I still play it. I never beat it on the hardest level, but every once in a while I get an urge and run through the game.

Summary:
I have had lots of fun with this thrilling arcade racing game, Death Rally. First I played the shareware version of it with only the first three cars. Because that experience was so exhilerating, I got the full version with all six cars as well. And, I am glad that I did.

Death Rally features a top down view of the race track, with nice graphics and small cars. Your supreme goal in each race is to come first, blow all of your opponents into oblivion, collect all of the goodies and win a big wad of cash. That is a tough task. To succeed in this game you need to win heaps of races to get lots of money, so as you can buy upgrades for your car, weapons, and new cars. You also need to climb up the ladder, pushing the your rivals down into shame as you go. Because of these factors you need these three useful things:
1. Patience
2. Persistence
3. A mind which constantly reminds you to save the game.

Yes, the latter, if forgetting, can get very frustrating. I hate when I am going so "good" that I suddenly get blown into kingdom come by enemy opponents, and have to the start the game over because I did not save it. Games like these should have *auto-saving* abilites that save the game in a special slot every time after a race. That would be a pleasing improvement.

I especially like the sounds and music of Death Rally. The music is pleasing to the ear. Though can get a bit distracting. I often turn it off. The sounds are neat with the blaring of guns and the purring of low-end to high-end motors. The commentator also provides helpful information by shouting out things like "look out!", "oh, this is no good, you've been lapped!", "it's a new lap record!" at the appropriate times. That guy should be in games like Command & Conquer and Starcraft, to induce more excitement into them! The only disadvantage in this area of Death Rally is you have to go through a series of menus to adjust their volumes. You can not just quickly change them while racing by just preesing escape and doing a fiddle.

I was really impressed by the graphics when I first got this game. They are SVGA, and very nice and smooth, especially in the menus and shops. In the race, the graphics are brought to life even more with 3D buildings and/or scenary sticking out at you, similiar to another car game, Grand Thieft Auto.

The cars and opponents in Death Rally are reasonably challenging depending on what difficulty setting you choose. There are 3 settings resembling easy, medium, and hard. I often play medium and have finished it with medium. Speaking of finishing Death Rally, it does take a while. Hmm, for amatuers maybe a couple of weeks. But, for the real computer game goers it should only take a few days. Well, saving us from single-player boredom (if any) there is are also multi-player options. Unfortuately, I have never played a multi-player game of Death Rally, but hope to soon.

Overall, this is a fun game, which I admit is rather small but provides a good arcade racing challenge. *Duke Nukem (that guy with big muscles and blonde hair in Duke Nukem 3D) is in it as an opponent, or someone you can be as!* Though, if I was the producer of the game I would have possibly added a few extra little things such as police cars and more weapons. Never-the-less, I had lots of fun with it and also occasionally load it up onto the computer again to have a play. (Replay value!) So, if you see it in a bargain bin somewhere for a cheap price, pick it up for a gurranteed fun-time. Oh, there is also the shareware version to download aswell.

Summary:
This game is pretty good the first time you play it and get used to it. But theirs not much to it and its way to easy. I was actualy going to buy it when I could find it but in the mean time I played the demo and actualy won against the most fastest car, the deliverater and the others above my car in the hard stage with a sentenial. I would say get the demo and If you want 3 extra cars and more tracks all the upgrades and above all actually win the game, BUY IT!

Summary:
Death Rally is a neat little action-racing game from GT Interactive. The object of the game is to race your car around various tracks against 3 other cars until you top the list where all drivers get their points posted. Waste your opposition with all kinds of gadgets.. Guns, mines.. You can even sabotage your unsuspecting fellow racers, and they fall down a lot quicker.. You can either get first to the finish, or annihilate all three adversary cars, and you get bonuses according to what you do out on the track. The game has an excellent difficulty-curve and the graphics are very nice, putting you in a top-down perspective which works perfectly well. Combined with the thumping sound tracks and good sound effects, this makes for good gameplay, which'll have you coming back for more until you've ran the whole thing to the final finish. All in all, I think you'll find this game to be quite entertaining!
