Summary: BAK is one of the best RPG games out there for sure. It has an excellent storyline, and it is not repeatative, so you can play it as much as you want. Even though the graphics and music aren't the best, I'm not a person who looks out for that stuff. Just as long as it has a good storyline and gameplay, I love it. BAK contains many puzzles and trials. The game has a certain "ring" to it you won't find anywhere else.
Summary: A great Game with an excellent interface, story and replayability. i serverly doubt even the latest games will be able to beat this old legend.
Summary: It is sad that I have to post my review here to complain about the current state of RPGs. Sure the graphics nowadays are amazing, but there seems to be a lack of intelligence and storying, which seems a continuing trend - brainless clicking about as you're awed by graphics, like the latest hollywood flick that leaves you mindnumbed and braindead.
This game was awesome when I played it. It's greatest aspect is the story, co-written by one of my favourite authors - Raymond E. Feist. The userinterface and combat engine is so good it has been copied in Betrayal in Antara - which sucked because it lacked any good story or interesting puzzles.
That's what Krondor is full of - intelligent, intriguing puzzles which you have to solve. All the recent RPGs I've played (not even including Diablo as I consider it more of an action game) are too much hack and slash, even in the praised Baldur's Gate, where the only intelligence lies in how to do combat and not how to progress the game. There's no more 'adventure game' problem solving in it, which is why for now I am no longer interested in what used to be my favourite game genre.
Summary: Well, this game is IT. Since I first saw it in 1993, I have found no match for this game. When Return to Krondor came out, we rushed to try it out, expecting the same excellent features, with nice 3D graphics. But RTK lacked all that made BTK unique: - Well tought of storyline, probably written by Feist himself: the whole story were like reading a Feist book... full of wonders, surprises, challenges - Details everywhere. Every enemy had pre-designed inventory, all items had full, detailed descriptions, every action were described just like a DM does or a book writes. It really made the whole game lively. - Balance in the game that gave every finding from a rusted broadsword to the walheru sword priceless - Fairly quick and action-packed gameplay - A wery good and intuitive turn-based combat system (I have not yet seen anything nearly as good as that one was) - And a lot of extras: wordpuzzle-locked chests (about 100 different puzzles!), intuitive traps the player had to solve, unique spells, and I can continue till my fingers bleed...
Summary: Betrayal at Krondor (BAK) is perhaps the best RPG I have ever played. Only recently has Baldur's Gate become a contender. When I first saw BAK at a friends' house, I thought, 'gee this looks crap'. Then I sat down to play the first chapter, and although the graphics weren't really up to scratch, even for a 1993 title, they were good enough. The music in BAK is one of my favourite features, and sets the tone beautifully. The eerie music while travelling in the north makes you want to escape, which also happens to be the plan. Also, the different types of equipment and spells are great. There are heaps of different swords, armour and potions to keep you going. The graphics for all of the items are detailed and imaginative, and feel right for the storyline and the world the game is set in. The best thing about BAK is the the story. From the humblest of beginnings, you are swept into a massive adventure of earth-shattering proportions, with an excellent combat engine, superbly moody music, and many weird and wonderful artifacts. This game rocks!
