Summary:
Set in the golden age of sail, two great nations compete for domination. This naval combat / RPG sim is very engrossing even 8 years after it was released. While it may appear to be the world as we know it discovery will reveal a fantastic world based on our own for you to discover. If you liked Pirates! Gold or Koei's "Uncharted Waters" series you'll love this game. However THIS PC GAME DOES NOT HAVE DRIVERS FOR VERSIONS OF WINDOWS BEYOND 98! You will need to have an old Win98 machine lying around or a Win98 bootable partition to play the game...if you can even find a copy.

Summary:
Excellent game, it seems strange that it didn't make more of an impact and how difficult it is to find at stores. I was quickly immersed in the reality based fantasy world of Tides of War. Playing as either the Anglish or the Darn you are in command of a ship, with many detailed options on how to manage it (i.e. discipline of crew, maintenance, assigning men to cannons). The mission based game leaves plenty of room for wandering about the huge world filled with different nations, climates and plenty of ships. One of my favorite things to do was just wonder the oceans trading or fighting pirates. Anyway, this game IMO surpasses Pirates Gold.

WOW! This is an awesome game. Nobody talks about it and you can hardly find it in the stores. What a great game. Incredible sea battles, whales, damage to ships and loss of life! Once you start you can't stop!

Summary:
Tides of War
This is a sleeper. Almost no ads or hype. And the darn main screen has some very cheesy looking water to sail around on.... but almost every other aspect of the game is excellent. This is top down strategy. The story line is fixed, but varied and interesting, and also provides for you going off and looting the world if you want. You can turn pirate. You can play either side of a good/bad world powers situation. Hornblower or Jack Audbry fans can immerse themselves. Command various levels of ships. Great looking cut scenes. Loot the enemy and build up your ship. It's actually pretty cool.
