Summary: I am honestly appaulled that the ratings of this game ever got so high. Confessions first I haven't played it in the last 3 years but this is merely because I wouldn't dare want to, it was summarily binned shortly after purchase.
At a glance you're a mining corporation out to make some moolah, well mining asteroids... And that's it... you get to fight over asteroids with aliens because... well you want them... This is surely the game's greatest flaw, there is no storyline and you end up wondering what you're doing out there anyway. Heck why not just cash in your hectic lifestyle for a young blonde female and make some sweet love?

Summary: Great game. I play for hours on end. No game is like it. You have to set up a colony, build up a fleet and either take over aliens or win by trade. The only downsides are there are no specific victories and you can't be the aliens races.

Summary: It's amazing! I've never played a game more fun from this game. It's a good game. Build your own colonies and fleets. Don't forget to build you mining asset too! Build fleets, attack alien colonies, or even destroy the whole asteroids with your MEGA missiles. Then chat with the alien ambassador and Jane Fong. I don't regret paying $80 for this game. This is GOOD. Just surrender your money and get yourself a better life.

Summary:
I can't believe that this game is having a 2nd life in 1999, because it's an 1996 game. Even so I also bought it last January and it's one of the best games I have. The game itself is a strange mix between Master of Orion; Civilization; SimCity and Utopia. You must spread your mining colonies in a hostile and unknown sector of the galaxy (the MOO/Civilization part), and building them on asteroids so you can mine ore for sale and personal use (the SimCity/Utopia part). The game is simple but very addictive. The interface can be somewhat odd at first but nothing too complicated. The diplomacy really shines on this. Unlike Civilization or other games where a pact is established in one turn and break on the other, in FA you and the aliens have penalties for breaking a pact or for not attacking a common enemy. The first time I saw an ambassador talking I was surprised. They've captured the faces of live actors and rendered them in the game. You can see the mood of an ambassador by just looking at his face. And the game has a great replay value. Not only the 10 missions included are very huge, but also if you replay them you'll start in a different point in a different map. So there's no repetition in here. The 1st scenario -the easy one- took me 2 weeks to complete. If you don't want to manage your colonies you can hire colony managers and they will run it for you while you are busy with the whole strategy. And believe me, the DO a good job setting up the buildings, extracting ore, and setting up defenses. You can sell your ore to make money, keep some to build up space ships and missiles, or sell it in the black market. You can hire agents for cover up, sabotage or just reckon missions. You can do lots of things in this game.I'm only writing this because other folks are also enjoying the game. I thought this game was dead and buried a long time and I was the only FA "survivor".I strongly recommend this game for hard-core gamers that eat Civilization in the morning.
Summary: The game is fun! This is a fact. Picked it up at a local computer store on the $10 rack, and came home with a winner. Although I'm not much of a 'real time' gamer, this game is manageable (you can always slow it down by accessing command screens). My only disappointment is that there isn't one upgrade patch made for this game, considering the amount of time it has been around. If the company totes the quality of this game, why not add more and more to it (Civ certainly doesn't stop). P.S. Aliens rot. Trust no one!
