Summary:
DAoC Shrouded isles is a good roleplaying game set in the typical medieval setting. (note, you must have the original DAoC game to play Shrouded isles). This is an online game only (it cost 10$ US per month to play).

Basicaly, you choose to play in one of the 3 realms (Albion, Midgard or Hibernia). All the players in your realm are your allies. You will be fighting the players of the other 2 realms (if you choose to do PvP, wich is optional). Note that you are not restricted to play solely in one realm, you can create characters in other realms as well.

There are 2 main types of play, wich are described below:

PvE (Player vs Environement). In this type of play, it's you and your friends against the computer. You can choose amongst many different races and class to create your character. There are 4 main groups to choose from: 'Warriors group', 'Stealthers group', 'Pure spellcasters group' and 'Healers group'. Each of these groups is divided in 2, 3 or 4 different class.

PvE is almost solely monsters killing. You have no real puzzles to solve (wich is the biggest drawback of this game). There is plenty of roleplaying but not with computer controled creatures, it is mostly with other online players. A very interresting aspect is the ability to create guilds and alliances between many guilds. This greatly improves gameplay quality. In PvE, you venture into the mainland and there are only members of your realm in it.

The level of difficulty of the game is fair. One thing bugging me is the long travel times between cities within the realms (sometimes as long as 10 minutes, sigh). A better use of teleportation would greatly reduce this anoyance.

PvP (Player vs Player). This is where the game is the most fun. If you do only PvE, you will get tired of the repetetivness of it. In PvP, you will feel surges of adrenalin every time. To do PvP, you must go to special zones wich are accessible to all 3 realms. The most thrilling thing to do in PvP is to get a large group of players togheter (usualy from your guild's alliance) and attack the defense keeps of one realm with the goal of stealing one of their relics. When you do so, the relic while give bonuses to ALL the players of your realm. Pretty cool.

In summary, I would recommand this game if you are either a big roleplaying fan or a PvP fan. If you prefer playing only against the computer, don't bother.

Summary:
I've been playing Dark Age for over a year now, and since i got this update. I'll probably be playing it for another year. The graphics are twice as good (ie. The trees have limbs and leaves now & the water has full reflections and looks better than water on any other game i've ever played") The new characters are alot of fun as well. It was another excellent job by Mythic.
