Summary:
Disappointing. I've played all the Wizadry's and expected a lot more from this one. It's better by far than M&M9 (what isn't?) but not as good as M&M 6,7 or 8. It's similar to Wizards & Warriors in some ways, but again, not as good. Where W&W had some truly wonderful monsters and dungeons, Wiz8 just has bus loads of monsters and rather routine dungeons. After about 45 hours of play I put it away.

Review NaN of 55
, from Belmont, CA

Summary:
There are two things that I should immediately point out about Wizardry 8. First, it is the hardest CRPG you will ever play, at least among the modern era CRPGs. Second, this game requires more patience than any CRPG you will ever play. So, if you like a serious challenge, and are incredibly patient, Wizardry 8 is the game for you. If not, then stay far away, because this game will have you smashing your mouse to bits in frustration (mine is currently held together with duct tape).

I do not recommend Wizardry 8 to everybody. Even though I give it a (deservedly) high rating, this game is definitely for the hardcore CRPG player. Don’t expect a delightful little romp through the faerie lands as in similar games like Might and Magic. In Wizardry 8, the faeries are big and mean and will eat your party for lunch, and they’ll be dragging their bloodied and broken bodies to the nearest shelter…and that’s before you even make it out of the first area. Forget about weapons and armor – the first thing your party needs in this game is a good supply of body bags. Long before you are finished with this one, you will feel as if you have been to Hell and back. And I can confidently state that this is the first CRPG I’ve ever played where my party had to be treated afterwards for post-traumatic stress syndrome!

Now that I’ve scared off 98% of you, the remaining 2% will be happy to know that you will be rewarded for your struggles, for Wizardy 8 is a rich, complex, well thought-out CRPG that is full of surprises if you can survive into its latter stages. Complimenting this is an outstanding character creation and development system, unique NPCs with extensive dialog, and combat that lets you take strategic advantage of your characters’ strengths in a way that few CRPGs can match. Wizardry 8 is a game that alternates between maddening, infuriating, and satisfying…and is sometimes all three at the same time.

Summary:
What I would say about this game is that I enjoyed it for a while but it's fatal flaw got too much for me in the end, combat.

The comabt system makes the game almost unplayable, that is only my opinion and others don't find it so, but the fact that there us a program out there designed to speed it up tells us there must be some sort of issue.

Combat can take up to 20 minutes per battle, I'm not kidding, each enemy has to perform each movement and each attack, in turn, one after each other, very slowly.
In the end I couldn't take it any more and started to run from every encounter, it was a nightmare and I deleted it.

I also didn't like the Sci Fi feel to it with spaceships etc, saying that, this didn't put me off the Might and Magic games.

I am reluctant to compare it to any other game, it looks most like Wizards and warriors, but at least W&W has the option of non turn based combat.

I also didn't like going through "Tunnels" even in the open, ie high mountains either side wherever you go, making you go through one narrow channel at all times.

The games good points are a lot of freedom to develop your character, graphics are ok.

Summary:
I have to say i'm not good at writing reviews but today i just felt like it. RPGs are my favourite genre of game which is why i brought this though i would not actually class it as a rpg like i would a game like baldur's gate or neverwinter nights. wizardy 8 is not like those games but is overall one of those games that like them makes you WANT to carry on just to find out the stories ending.
