Electronic Arts Sim City 4 Simulation Review

Electronic Arts Sim City 4

Description
In SimCity 4, you don't just build your city, you breathe life into it. With god-like powers, sculpt mountains, gouge riverbeds, and seed forests to lay the groundwork for your creation. Your city comes alive with the hustle and bustle of construction crews, the snarl of traffic and the activity of your Sims. Build mansions on mountainsides, cross canyons with bridges, raise skyscrapers downtown, and compete for resources with neighboring SimCities. The impact of your touch will be immediate but not entirely predictable. Cap an erupting volcano to save your city, but don't be surprised if lava explodes from another source. If your citizens burst into a panic, throw down barricades and dispatch the police. Will your actions calm the crowd or contribute to chaos? With every decision you make, your city and your Sims will respond for better or worse.

Summary:
Important comparison to why this game does not exceed the succesfull classic + snes version.

-First we could play God,now we only have worries.

-The balance system is horrible, previously you could outbalance and become rich, now if you earn a dime you immediatly get costly problems that cost you more then you earned.

- Seasons are lost, we had winter, summer, spring, fall in the nintendo version, here we only have day and night? That for a game in 2002 (thumb down)

- The leveling tool is just awfull, left click and you just keep spending money even if already 'leveled' the terrain.

- The raster is gone, only a temporarily raster is to be displayed? Maby there is a tool like in SC 2000 SE ,but i couldn't easily find it.

- No configuration tool , the monthly expenses are 'to cry about' its much too much what you have to pay, I can't earn money from the beach, parks, museums, library's and barely get income from mass transit ,but i am obliged to pay over 400$ each month to reduce the water pollution for a staggering 15 000$ costing water treatment plant that takes up a LOT of land space.

I HAVE to sacrifice and put up country deminishing crime attracting casino's ,militairy installations, toxic waste dumps, just to 'earn' some legitamite cash.

So your stuck in a downard cycle once you go building, actually the horrible thing about the game is, The end conclusion.

that if you want to do a 'good' job, don't build a city at all.

=(

No wonder this game is so poorly selled compared to sim city classic + nintendo's sim city.

I loved the nintendo sim city intro, the happyness when your city got upgraded, the seasons changing, the advisor was comical and funny, the game was all about making me happy.

Now i just might as well jump in the trash that Sim City 4 represents.

Summary:
I started playing this game in February and played for about 2 weeks when I no longer could keep my patience with the atrocious lack of performance. This game should not have been released or the requirements for your system should have been higher. The recommended 256 mb RAM and 32 mb on the graphics card are not sufficient to build a region of interconnected cities, which is the major new feature of this game compared to previous versions.

Yes, the graphics are better, the interface is somewhat improved, but the poor performance and some tragic changes for the worse makes this game a big disappointment.

Summary:
I simply enjoy the Sim games. I would go as far as to say any game is fun if you try to see it from a different point of view. Sim City 4 is no exception of this. I guess my own real disappointment thus far is, yes the game does lag some. But that is hardly enough to keep me from liking it. Trust me, I have games worse than SC4 in terms of graphic problems; these games freeze on me, quit on me, and let alone lag. Nonetheless, I still enjoy them the same. Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to get at is not to be let down by the graphics. Maxis truly did an amazing job, which is not to be denied. They gameplay and graphics still have that exciting charm to it. And if you think making a city in Sim City 4 is hard, heh, try making your own in real life. This game is cake compared to real life scenarios. In addition, however, I find it difficult to be able to grow your city so large that you need to have 45,000 commercial jobs to get your first real skyscraper (ok, I've had 15 story buildings at a medium-sized city, but nothing higher.) Being repetitive while improving can be mercurial, but fun at the same time. Remember, challenges is something that makes the replay so strong. Who wants an easy game where you can build metropolises in a couple hours? No, this game takes days...just to get to reasoonably decent size. Save often too and test things out. More often than not, I save my city and then go all out with taxes and such to see how long I can survive with my population while raking in money. If all goes well, just continue; if things look grim, close out and get back in. Little things like this can help you shape your strategy.

Summary:
Sim City 4 was a game i was long awaiting.I've had plenty of mixed feelings about the game its like i cant make up whether i like it or not. Though after more hours of playing came through it was as clear as day how i felt about the game. Sim City 4 is not to be compared to Sim City 3 as they are very different. Gameplay is extremely challening, graphics are totally improved, system demandal is HEFTY, nice soundtrack yet many things were "missing" which gave the game a sense of emptiness. I will explain below.

Summary:
I Loved it! A bit buggy though but I'm sure Maxis/EA Games will put out some patches for them soon. I already have one. I found that it works pretty well most systems. It extremely challenging which is good for me because I aced the former titles too quickly. I love the new Region feature because I can interconnect all of my creations and I'm addicted to Terraforming, too. Everything else is just peachy. a few minor bugs but nothing I can't deal with and work around. Good Job People! :)
