from EB Games Summary: Once again, Maxis brings us the opportunity to manipulate virtual people and families to our hearts content. This time, they aren't just giving us an expansion pack, they are going all the way back to the first Sims game, adding some things and wrapping it in a pretty 3D engine. The amount of content, such as items, clothes, etc. seem sparse compared to what they had given us through six previous expansion packs. They must have been focusing on the game changes rather than "items". Some of the added elements are significant to the gameplay, like aging, and generations. Others may or may not matter depending on how you want to play the game (more on that later).
If you have never played The Sims before, you get to create one or many little people, use their money to buy a house, furnish it with things, get them jobs, build relationships, and make sure they don't wet their pants and are mostly happy. Along the way, they may find love, have children, buy more expensive things, burn down the house, and learn to cook. If this sounds a lot like The Sims, it is, and it is also The Sims 2.
As for the DVD special edition, more than anything, it was nice to get the game on 1 DVD disk instead of 3-4 CD's. But the extra bonus material on the 2nd DVD isn't really worth much. The much touted "tutorials" on making Sim movies is just a member of the dev team talking about what to do, there is no hands-on showing of how to do it. Some of the other material is fun, but most of it isn't. You'll get about 5 minutes of lasting material from the 2nd disk. Report this review >>
