Summary:
I found Silent Hunter II a very difficult simulation to 'get into' for some reason. It never really got me hooked like it seems to have done with other reviewers. Frequent visitors to these pages will have noticed my complete and utter penchent for military simulation games. Although I prefer fixed wing flight simulators, I'll 'dabble' in naval warfare with much enthusiasm provided I feel the simulation is sufficiently deep or the gameplay sufficiently addictive.

The other submarine simulation I currently own is the much-loved Sub-Command. Compared to that, Silent Hunter II doesn't seem to have much to offer.

Summary:
Overall, I find this game addicting once you learn the stations. At first I wasn't too sure with the crashes for online play but since a patch came out (PM) from www.subsim.com I found the game to be quite enjoyable with way less crashes. You are now able to play IP games with fellow players after you meet up in the WPL chat room at the site mentioned. I like submarines of this era so the (PM) patch was a blessing for multiplayer.

I had played Aces of the Deep and enjoyed the game greatly. However, SH2 does not live up to the playability and realability of AOD.

Summary:
All in all I like SH2 alot. The game play is great, graphics acceptable and the sound is awesome. The big problem I have with the game is no dynamic campaign. Errrrr. Really blew that one fella's. What were you thinking? No chance to keep a running tally on Allied shipping losses from month to month with you impacting them? If the game came with this feature and a mission editor it would be superb. It is possible to build your own scenarios by going into the program files and I have been doing this but its a lenghty, painful process for me. My summary though...If your a sub fan of the world war 2 era, buy it. You will like it.

Summary:
Sh2 is a very good game. This game will last hours and won't feel like a chore playing on. After you have downlaoded the patch from the net the single player is great. It has many features and things to do. There is the Campain mode single mission and multiplayer. If you like simulations or naval warfare this is the game for you. You are a WWII Nazi u boat. The game has different subs to control and ranges from 1939 to 1945. One of the best things about this game is the ability to move from room to room controlling everything. You can look at the helm, map, radar, sound room, radio room, deck gun AA guns, torpedo room, captainns quarters bridge and a few more. You can shoot down planes or make the multiple AA guns AI controlled. You can fire the deck gun or make the AI do it. The ratio of player imput to AI controll is perfect! The bad thing is that there is no campain editor or single mission map editor(Although there is a "random" map type thing. Another bad thing is the multiplayer lag.
