Summary:
There seem to be two options. One is to start building at least one colony from scratch in an archapelago. This would be good if you're willing to play for weeks or months at a time, but it's awfully slow going. Or, you can come in at one of a number of situations. In that case you are, to varying degrees, established, but extremely difficult goals are set, and huge fleets of pirates prowl the seas in most scenarios.

Summary:
Well, when I saw this game I knew I would like it! It looks to be a brader idea of "Colonization". (An old Game) I've only been playing the game today. I am quite dissapointed that it seems to get the mining and higher farming options I have too.... dunno but if I dont figure it soon the game is over for me. It seems a waste because the game could be good.

Summary:
1602 A.D., as you probably know, is a game based around building colonies on ilands of various sizes. During this time you have competitors & pirates to deal with. I personaly like the game for its ability to give the gamer a chance to build a colony/civlazion of people and at the same time be able to have skirmishes with other players using units such as artilary men, calvary men, ETC... the biggest problem with the game is the fact that in most cases you are given an under sized ship with very few cannons, which is easy to sink by pirate rades. That little ship is the only way you can survive, you cant trade with out a ship(which is the only way with out cheating to get goods from a forein settlement).of course you can build another ship but only with a shipyard which can only be gotten after your colony gets big enough.

Summary:
I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not used to non-action games (but then again, I've got every Maxis game in the world) but this game didn't really appeal to me. It was quite boring. Yes, at first, it seemed interesting and promising, and everyone seemed to be making a fuss over it, but then, as we settled down, we found it impossible to satisfy the citizens. Also, the battles are pretty bad. Not much to do or watch.
Overall, this game was fairly disappointing, sorry to say.

Summary:
Very limited in terms of how far your options go. Everything is based on island hopping, meaning that you have to limit yourself to the small island that you are presented with, and if you lose your ship, well, you might as well start over.
You can control individual departments and turn them off or on depending if you need more food or wood etc. The trees grow back in time, however once you run out of gold or ore, well, time to settle a new island! and if you don't have a ship, or enough resources (because you have to bring all your resources WITH, and if you're settling a new island, its BECAUSE you don't have enough resources - can anyone see a redundent pattern?)
The buildings show their sphere of influence, but then again everyone is so demanding that you HAVE to supply an area, and if the supply dwindles by just one unit, everyone drops in class. The irony is that everything comes in by ship and you're always on the brink of running out.
