from EB Games Summary: Ensemble Studios have found success with Age of Mythology. However, what would a game be today without an expansion pack? Game companies have learned quickly that they can sell added value on a current game engine without having the two or three year development cycle needed for a full game. For some companies, it is a way to make a buck. For Ensemble Studios, it is a way to imrprove a game and solidify, tighten, and expand the gameplay. Some vanilla AOM purists will not like the changes, but they make for some interesting new strategies and help balance the playing field for more casual gamers.
Age of Mythology The Titans features 12 missions that are fun for people that like them. I am not a mission person, so I was not able to finish them. Some gamers may complain that it is short for an expansion pack. However, It includes a story as well as a good variety of tasks to accomplish, and you can play them over and over in different difficulties. I usually start out playing the missions to learn the game, but then move to skirmishes against the computer and online.
Single player skirmishes are a good way to practice against the computer before testing your skills online. Skirmishes are the core of all RTS games and can be played against the AI, a buddy on your LAN, or on the internet for fierce multiplayer action. One thing that bothers me about the internet play is that this game does not fix the problem of player speed. Age of Mythology The Titans is designed with speed in mind, since the faster player should win. A build order is necessary, and if you don't keep pace, the game will end quickly. However, ESO has been updated with a ranking system that does a good job of pairing gamers of equal skill. Report this review >>
