Summary:
THE TRUE REVIEW TO ASTEROIDS I BASE MY SCORES ON A 1-10 SCALE I BASE RECOMMENDING ON BUY IT, RENT IT, AND FORGET IT

This game obviously wasnt that good, the controls were all messed up, and it only had like six levels. It was pretty tough the first time around though, but after that its easy. The multiplayer was horrible, but the fact that you could play the classic asteroids was cool, and the thing that i liked the most was the boss asteroid at the end of the last level. It wasnt a solid game, but it was fun. Its not a game that you should go out and buy, but it was my fist ps1 game(before i got my ps2) and it was pretty fun then.

Graphics-8.5
They looked really good, considering i had just sold my sega genesis at the time. They were very much improved from the classic asteroids, but arent too good if you look at them today.

Gameplay/Control-5.5
It did have a story, but it wasnt a good one, and the controls were just horrible. you'd go flying all over the place, and you press one button and you could magically disappear, it was a cool feature but a pretty stupid one. The controls were also hard to get used to.

Sound-9
The sound effects were very cool, especially the shield part, and the backround music was very cool too.

Fun Factor-7.5
This game is very frustrating, and very unrealistic, but you will have your fair share of fun with this game.

Replay Value-6
Its fun to pop in a beat it in an hour when im bored, but only when im bored.

Challenge-7.5
The only part that gave this any challenge at all was the controls.

Summary:
This is a update to the classic Asteroids game(the game where you blasted asteroid after asteroid with your ship). This update obviously benefitted with better graphics and sound but it is somehow lacking in important areas. For one thing, even though the gameplay is basically the same the control is actually worse than the oringinal making the game tremendously more difficult. Another area where this game is lacking is in the area of plot. When the oringinal was released games could survive without a plot but in this day and age of videogames a plot is needed to propell the player to want to continue on in the game. I really can't recommend this game to anyone because it is very repititious and you will quickly grow bored of it.

Summary:
The timeless classic arcade game has finally been revised, but I have mixed feelings about it. Although capitalizing on graphics and sound (the major "faults" of the arcade game), Asteroids falls way behind on gameplay, which was the key element in the original. This detriment, unfortunately, corrupts the entire game itself. Because of the poor gameplay, I would honestly not recommend that true fans of the arcade game spend the money to purchase this sequel.
