from Blockbuster Summary: Legend of Dragoon follows in the footsteps of its predesessor Final Fantasy 7 in almost every way. In fact, some may cry that it follows TOO closely and that LOD's end result is a carbon-copied watered down rip-off. Even though that statement is meant to sound degrading, it nonetheless gets FF7 enthusants off their buts and out rushing to pick up a copy of this game. Chances are if you liked FF7, you will enjoy this game too. But instead of comparing the two from beginning to end, I'll turn to focus on the positives and negatives that makes this game what it is.
In my opinion, a good RPG is one that lets the player explore the world he is thrust into. A world that is full of secrets and suprises and mysteries and limitless danger. Of those four qualities, LOD showcases only one; mystery. The game plays more like a slow paced movie or a 500 page book, whereas instead of leting the player touch and feel from place to place, a set and ordered way of events and obstacles to overcome is layed down so methodically by the games producers, it leaves no room to venture off and see whats around the next turn before you actually get there. This is largely in part due to the deep and extremely complex storyline, that sprouts off bits and pieces of history and the characters past and present. In my opinion, LOD is the classic example of a storyline gone too far, and in the end it fogs up the final result by hindering all the fun aspects of what a great RPG should be.
Overall, LOD gets a thumbs down although I did find it somewhat enjoyable. The problem is that I find the negatives to slightly outweigh the positives. I probably won't even have enough space to pick apart everything that was wrong with the game, so instead of telling you why it's kinda good, I'll just tell you what's wrong with it.
