, from Whittier, CaliforniaSummary: Wow! Talk about conspiracy and espionage action. This game definitely quenched my thirst for fast action RPG that involve secret agents and an abundant of back stabbing. Once again, the people from Square delivers something so innovative in the world of RPG's. The caliber of this game exceeded beyond my expectations. I personally thought this game was another slap in the back but after playing numerous times, it is more than that. Square rarely disappoint me with any of their earlier or later games for that matter and with Vagrant Story, they have become legends in my book.
I got this game personally from the fact that it was made by Square. I already expected beautifully rendered gameplay as well as graphics. Playing this game made me think how much more can this game become because the way it is played alone is enough to penetrate ones extreme hype limit.
Along with this game is a fascinating story of hatred and lust. You are Riskbraker Ashley Riot, a member of the Valendia Knights of the Peace. Your job is to investigate a murder typical from any other. The manor of Duke Bardorba of Valendia Kingdom was taken over by a cult of religious fanatics known as Millenkamp. The murder and the cult are somehow connected in some twisted way. It is up to you to find out what exactly is going on. Your your designated place is also something out of the ordinary. Lea Monde is a place of barbarous monsters and lost souls. If anyone is remenicing Resident Evil, you are wrong. Unlike Resident Evil, Vagrant Story actually has a more complicated approach in its plot. The title alone has "story", which I came to expect that they would emphasise most of their gameplay on. Like most Squaresoft game stories, they are usually confusing and thought provoking. People who do not comprehend such elaborate concepts will definitely get lost, I did at some points. At times, I too get so lost trying to connect the story so it would make sense. The problem is that all of the puzzle pieces are scattered through out the game. I tried not to get involved in the story too much, and I recommend that we as players should focus on beating the crap of the enemies and achieving all the cool and powerful weapons of destruction instead.
If you have played Metal Gear Solid and Parasite Eve, this game is definitely for your taking. You will be glad to know that similar elements from these games are present in this game. The story is very elaborate and is taken to great depths of thought. The story may be a little uncanny but is quite conceivable. Let us see, a man wants to get rid of these bad guys that are doing things that the hero does not know. This is how I can put it to you guys as simple as I can. Since it is after all RPG based, the game will take longer than your average shooter or any other game for that matter. If you are expecting hardcore RPG, this game may upset you. Unlike Final Fantasy 7, 8, or 9, the environment is very limited. There are rarely any secrets to be discovered and there is plenty of dialogue, comic book based too. Overall, a great achievement from Square. A game that cannot be turned down easily. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys fast pack RPG action. I loved playing this game very much, and there is no doubt in my mind that others would think otherwise. Great job Square.
