LucasArts Gladius Roleplaying Review

LucasArts Gladius

Description
The brutal and spectacular gladiator battles of the ancient world serve as inspiration for Gladius, a turn-based action role-playing (RPG) game for the PS2. Gladius follows the grand saga of two young heroes, Ursula and Valens, as they recruit and train a team of warriors to contend in the fiercely competitive gladiator games.

Price Paid:  $50.00 from rhino videogames

Summary:
Gladius is an rpg where you compete in gladiator tournaments to rise in ranks to make your team known. You can recruit characters as journey along the different lands and also expel them if you choose. When you start you can only have eight characters but as you go, you can up to twenty characters in your gladiator school. When you fight at the Gladiator arenas the crowd cheers for you as you attack. At the end of the match your popularity rises depending on how much the crowed favored you. There aren't many sidequests on the game and shopping for supplies isn't very fun.shopping for new weapons and supllies is a headache and don't really help much. Once you get the right affinity weapaon you dont really need anything else. I feel that makes the game a little boring. Is Gladius is a descent rpg with quite a few new features. It also has it's downsides to bring to a mediocre review.

Price Paid:  $5.00 from Blockbuster Rental

Summary:
With Gladius, LucasArts managed to pull off the near-impossible. They actually managed to make something as visceral and primal as gladiatorial combat about as exciting as polishing armor. With boring, repetitive combat, terrible AI, and a badly broken equipment system, Gladius will put even strategy game veterans to sleep with its lack of gameplay. I'm glad I only rented the game, because this one's not even worth a bargain bin purchase: Advanced strategy gamers will be disgusted at how imbalanced the game is, and beginners will be put off by sheer boredom.
