Summary: RPGs are probably the most bi-polar games out there. There aren't any real OK ones, and there aren't any real iffy ones. They're either fun to play, or they suck, end of story. Ten hours or so in, that decision is usually made.
Grandia 2 was about to go on my hit list for bad RPGs at three hours in because of it's annoyingly bad graphics and scratchy music, but something about Ryudo, the main character, bothered me: he was likable.
Then, just as I crossed probably the sixth or seventh hour, I was starting to have a lot of fun, and not having played an RPG for almost a year, I almost forgot the key rule in their style: they usually aren't fun until you get past the story setup, which usually takes several hours to bog through.
Once Millenia came on, the dark half of Elena, a priestess that Ryudo, a Geohound (jack of all trades, so to speak)was hired to protect, then things got interesting. This is the main theme of Grandia 2, these three characters and their relationship with one another. Once Millenia's part in the game was determined as a crucial role, then things became addictive. Slowly after that, I was playing sunup to sundown on the weekends, and at nights when I came home from work to see what happened next in this bizarre love-triangle.
Of course, I couldn't have done it all without the superior battle system to keep me going. I wouldn't ditched Ryudo a long time ago. By far, it's the best out there, and even more so than Final Fantasy pick-your-number. It's the best because it's actually fun and more hands on than just menu, menu, menu. With strategy playing a key-role in determining your fights, your rounds will never be the same, and that goes a long way for an RPG.
Bottom line: the story is good if not unnecessarily dragged out by unneeded extra characters, but the battle system will be the only reason you'd want to play this game. Those of you familiar with the first Grandia, you won't be dissapointed.
After all, if that title's dated graphics and sound didn't scar you much, then this one won't either.

Summary: Grandia II is one of the few games that can cause you to overlook technical flaws and enjoy the gem within. This is one of the top five rpgs on the system and shouldn't be overlooked. If you come across of Grandia II in a bargin bin or even at full price buy it and enjoy it. This series has the potential to reach the heights of squares almost legendary series of rpgs and may even become a suitable replacemnet in the future. But it's just not quite there yet.
Summary: Four years ago, a extraordinary masterpiece changed gaming as we know it. It swept into the shelves and became an instant classic. Final Fantasy 7 that is. It had completely changed history of gaming by redefining all aspects of an RPG by showing the consumers what an RPG is all about. Even to this day, Final Fantasy 7 is still alive, and very much engraved into our hearts. But soon after the release of the epic RPG Final Fantasy 7, a new offspring of the RPG genre rolled in. The new promising title, "Grandia" had been released just as a desert after the big helping of Final Fantasy 7. Grandia was not very well recognized either, since it was hidden beneath the shadows of the industry giant, "SquareSoft." So it never really had a great chance of showing itself off.
When the PS2 had arrived, it was a whole new story. The were very few RPGs that were released at the time of the PS2, so it shorter terms, their was an RPG drought. So the greatest time to make Grandia shine in the spotlight, was the decision of the game company "Game Arts", to release their second title in the series , "Grandia II". There couldn't have been a better time to release Grandia II. So everyone that was quenching a thirst for an RPG had their chance by giving Grandia II a try. But for no more, the Grandia series wasn't hiding in the shadows, but standing out with the top RPG titles.
The story revolves around Ryudo (the main character) who is a geo-hound who lives off of treasure hunting and missions. But on one day, he is confronted with a girl named, "Elena". She tells him that she is trying to stop a ceremony that is happening and she would reward Ryudo with some money if he helps her. Thats basically the beginning of Grandia II. Mind you, it does get alot more interesting and there are many twists in the plot. I didn't wan't to add any more than that brief sample because I want you to view the rest for yourself.
Summary: this is one of the coolest rpg's i have ever played with all of the plot twists and classic rpg game play i is definatly worth buying for your ps2

Summary: This game was awesome. It kept me busy for 15 hours straight and i am still playing it.Although the graphics were't quite up to par with the other PS2 games, It was still a great game. Defenitly one of my top 10 favorite games of all time. The games unique battle system is what sets it apart from most other RPG's. Part turn based and part real time battles.
