Summary: I just got a new PC compatible with a pre-installed "music generator" program, Soundblast Acid. I can now compare the PS2 MTV Music Generator favorably to this software. The instructions on MTV Music Generator are minimal at best, yet I found myself quickly mastering the art of manipulating melody lines from a truly exhaustive sample library to make new loops.
Summary: I know several folks that bought this title, and returned it to the store. I was of the opinion that they were foolish, impatient, and didn't understand the subtle nuisances of the title...a week after purchasing it, I returned it for my money back. Imagine having a 190's model Porche 911 for a few years and just waiting for the new years model to hit the showroom floor. Only to go test drive it, and find that the break pedel has been swichted with the gear shifter, and in order to drive you have to face sideways rather than on the road ahead. This would be disturbing, right? For some reason video game makers feel compelled to give us the old switcheroo every time they update a new title. (That's why each year on Madden Football it's a new way to kick a friggin' field goal...why?...for what reason) I'd strongly advise anyone who would consider getting Generator 2, to buy the 1st version, and if they already have the 1st version, to buy it again.
Summary: Let there be no mistake, this is not a game. As a recording artist, I'd like to clear the air on this product by saying that anyone who expects such when purchasing it will be terribly disappointed, as will anyone who got it because Funkmaster Flex said it would make you a "Platinum Producer like he is"(whatever Flex). This is an advanced, user-friendly piece of re- mixing genius, that will become whatever the user makes it. If you're a no-talent music hack who thinks that N'Sync are musicians, you'll probably return this game in a day(like the guy who owned the game before I bought it used). But if you know your stuff, this piece of software will ROCK YOU. Not too much for the rocker or poppy kid so much, though.
Summary: The demos are good if your into modern techno, R&B, and trance. Not too much for the rock and roll kinda guy, but I make do. But the music video aspect got lost from this one.
Summary: Overall this game is excelent. Basically it is sequencer program with prerecorded riffs and thousands of single sound samples. But it doesn't end there. Each of these riffs and samples are subject to whatever effects you chose to apply to them. And you can tweek anything from an entire song to a a single snare hit, to a small portion of the snare hit. I DJ for clubs/bars/partys with turntables and I use cds recorded from this program on channel 3 of my mixer, mostly just tripped out progressives sounds that add to a crossfade transition between records. Anyway, I could go on forever about this game because what you can do is neverending. your skills grow along with this game as you become aware of the possibilities and options. If your just starting give it a chance and you'll be amazed at how far you can go.
