Summary:
Brilliant fighting and hip hop game.
One of the best beat 'em ups around.
Story mode has a very good story line as you have too fight for both gangs and has good cut scenes in game which some lead to another fight.

Summary:
EA Big's 'Def Jam Vendetta' was a left-field surprise smash hit. The idea of blending wrestling and rap appeared to be ludicrous (no pun intended) to me at first, but the game played surprisingly well when I picked it up. The sequel, titled 'Fight For New York', is obviously aimed for the same crowd its predecessor aimed for, but it's definitely more grown. 'FFNY' is a good rental and party game, and it may even be purchase-worthy in the eyes of some.

Summary:
Genre: Action> Fighting> Wrestling
Designed By: EA Canada

Good: Truly innovative fighting system focusing on environmental damage.
Bad: Not much Incentive to play after beating the game.
You’ll have the most fun with: Bonecrusher

Story: The story in this game is awesome. It’s amazing how much EA improved on the original. Starting right from the end of the first game, D-Mob has just been arrested, and you, the player, rescue him and join his crew. You then help the crew takeover turf from Snoop Dog’s crew, as he tries to take your. It’s a really tight story, that completely ties all aspects in the game together. Everything you do, everywhere you fight, there’s a story to go with it, so you never feel like your doing something pointless. Of course between every other fight, there’s an A+ quality cutscene waiting for you. A much better story mode that most fighting games.

Graphics: The graphics in this game are sick. When you fist pop in the game, your treated to this crazy cutscene showcasing what the game has to offer. But the nice thing, is how the cutscene graphics actually follows into the game. The lighting is perfect, animations fit each character perfectly, and it all ran without a hiccup. You have to really appreciate the subtleties though. You actually see all the damage that occurs, if you were punched in the head a lot, you’ll start to bleed like a person who got beat in the head. If you get slammed into a wall, then kicked in the gut, you spit blood out before you get back up. The graphics mimic Splinter Cells, with the perfect lighting effects, awesome shadow, and perfect character models. You’re gonna be impressed, fo’sho.

Sound: There is a huge list of songs, and I could go on and on about all these old school songs that are on her, you’ll turn all the sound effects and other sounds of and just chill to your favorite tracks from a huge variety of hip-hop artist. But, I’m gonna take this time to tell you about the best thing about the music in this game, is the fresh artists. I was surprised to find people in this game that I didn’t know, and even more surprisingly, they were actually good. I won’t bore you with the other details, like how realistic it sound, when you smash a half-ton burly Mexican into a vending machine, because I don’t know how that sounds, but I think they did it right. If you know anything about the subject, feel free to email me.

Gameplay: Hmmmm.......so were finally at the most important section of the review, also the longest, so go take a bathroom break, then read on. [Bathroom Break] The gameplay in this game, is frickin awesome. Now as for, it’s almost uncomparable to the first ones. Def Jam Vendetta was trying to be an over-the-top wrestling game, and it succeeded. But in Def Jam: Fight For New York, it’s all about the different environments. Lets go with the basics first. There are 5 different fighting styles in this game, some characters only know one, while others may know up too three. The goal of each match is to KO you’re opponent, but, you can’t simply bring his health bar down. To properly finish of your opponent, you must bring their health into the “red”. Once that is accomplished you have 4 choices to A) Knock him/her out with the weapon of your choice, weapons can be taken from the crowd or ground. B) Grapple them and throw them into something [my personal fav]. C) Do a fighting style specific combo(See sidebar). D)Do a fighter specific “BLAZIN” move. That’s right, each of the 70 + characters has their own specific move(what a great game). Now this may seem easy at first glance, but getting your opponent into the “red” is no easy task. There’s always that chance that your opponent will reverse you’re grapple and stuff you in the ground. And just because their in the “red” is no guarantee that you will win, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on the brink of death, but a lucky grapple, and a couple smacks in the head with a blunt object, and I came out victorious. If you want to succeed in this game, you’ve gotta fight dirty.

The End: This game is a rental, it’s just not long enough for you to spend $50 on. And there little incentive to play after you’ve beaten it.
8.5/10
