Bam Dropship - United Peace Force Strategy Review

Bam Dropship - United Peace Force

Description
Dropship: United Peace Force is an explosive combat experience that takes you to the year 2050 where the United Nations and NATO have been replaced by the United Peacekeeping Force. Freshly recruited to the ranks, you must utilize a range of futuristic, super high-tech ground and air combat vehicles to combat a new, deadly menace and unravel a political plot that threatens world peace. Dropship's unique gameplay is a new take on the action genre, where every tactical decision influences the success of the mission. With the aid of a co-pilot, players can fly, drive and storm their way through huge, photo-realistic combat zones, launching assaults on enemy targets while political intrigue plays itself out in a frighteningly realistic plot.

Summary:
A few years ago i saw this game when looking around ign.com, it looked like it was going to be great. I remembered playing the Halo demo for xbox in a store once and the dropship landing was just too cool, i wish we had a PS2 game like it! then when i looked at the screen shots there were lots of allied transports and planes flying around fighting off enemies there were also little ground soldiers (something not in the final game). Then about a year later i bought the game in Best Buy and started playing, the premise is good flying really cool spaceship like things in dogfights, but i found out it was not what i thought it would be...

Dropship was never a highly anticipated games and you can see that from the number of reviews that it's got on this very page.

But the truth is Dropship is probably the best Flight Sim i have ever played and it's full with action sequences.

Summary:
As stated before, this game is very original in concept. One very interesting feature about the concept is that is very forseeable that war in the future, and the use of land forces in particular, can certainly progress to the point simulated in the game. Why not have a supersonic jump jet replace the Chinooks, Hueys and Blackhawks we use today? It just makes sense.
The game controls are excellent, and I will say more about that below. Of all of the Flight Simulator-type games available for PS2, this is probably the most simulator-like game available, even though real drop ships do not exist, the game feels less 'Arcadey' than say Top Gun or even Ace Combat 4. Still, it does have some arcade-style elements (like huge numbers of missiles and rockets, and all of the land vehicle missions where one recon vehicle wipes out the enemy army). Perhaps the console will never get away from that, because reality can be very boring. (Do you realy want to fly straight and level for 8+ hours and then have 6-8 minutes of action, then fly 8+ more hours home? No.) I can say a LOT more, but I do not wish to be a spoiler for those of you who have not yet played the game.
The game is Mission Based, and there is no mission editor, so you have to play a linear set of missions grouped into campaigns. The next mission becomes unlocked by the previous.
Training is a must because the controls are completely unique and the flight model, as far as I know, is new. I have played almost every flight sim available for the PC, and the three I mentioned are the only console flight sims I have played, for a frame of reference.

Summary:
From the looks of this review board, it appears that not many people have checked out Dropship. But, having taken the plunge, I can honestly say that Dropship is a pretty cool and ORIGINAL game.... not to mention super challenging. The basic premise is that you're involved in a futuristic war as a dropship pilot for the 'good-guys', the 'United Peace Force'. I haven't finished the game yet 'cause it's bloody hard, but the missions I have seen range from recon. to rescue to assaults to all-out dog-fights with helicopters and jets. And, as a bonus for completing a mission, you get to watch a full replay of the action with cool 'handheld' camera angles and everything.
