$0.00 Summary: DOOM 3 takes makes the world hit DOOM 1 look like a pea shoot-em up.
In the first 2 DOOM games it was just 'run around and shoot anything that moves'. However, DOOM 3 has given the DOOM series a proper storyline, and made the game long and challenging.
DOOM 3 starts off with an intro that sparks intrest to the players, saying that it is set in the future, and that the Union Aerospace Corps. owns technology that used to be dreamed about. Then they player is on Mars as a security guard who has just been on a shuttle from Earth. The player goes through the game trying to stop the main threat - a teleporter that the head of the UAC has authorised them to build lets hundreds of demons into the facility, and then player is out to stop them by striking at the scource. There are people that constantly talk to the player, only a few times in person, and the player is on his own for 99.999% of the game, to add to the scary effect that the game has.
The player carries around a PDA, which gives him/her access to certain areas in the game, and instead of looking for red, yellow or blue card keys, the player must find PDA's owned by the deceased to upload the clearence so they can get to the next area. Somtimes they must look for a card key, however. And unlike DOOM 1 and 2, DOOM 3 isn't repetitave, and always has new environments and objectaves in orer to reach a goal.
There are many panels, unlike in the first 2 DOOM games, that enable the player some interactivity with the environment. Some examples of these are security lockers, elevator panels, etc.
The game also sports many weapons, all from the original DOOM, but refurnished.
These weapons include:
Pistol, Shotgun, Chaingun, Machine gun, Plasma gun, Chainsaw, grenades, Soul Cube (an ancient artifact), etc.
There are many dark places in DOOM 3 to keep the scary element, but luckily the player is equipped with a flashlight. The downside, and this is very smart, is that the flashlight is handheld, and not attatched to a weapon.
DOOM 3 is also playable on Xbox Live, on Cooperative, when 2 people play through the entire campaign, or any level of their choice, and multiplayer, where there are a few seperate game modes to enjoy. There has been modifications tothe campaign on Live, such as mini games against the walls at the beginning, or doors where both players have to be present.
Anyone who is scare very easily, or is 'afriad of the dark', do not buy this game. But if you are interested in any type of shooter which offers some scares, or just want to blow up demons with a varitey of weapons, then this game is for you, and at a reasonable price. Strengths: DOOM 3 has amazing graphics and sound, unlike a lot of other games, and the 'music' keeps the player shaking, waiting for an 'Imp' to leap out of a nearby locker. You can hear whispers in the dark. When you walk into a room, you look all around, and no-one is there, but then you turn back around and someone is attacking you.
There are a variety of enemies to deal with too, and some much easier than others. Weaknesses: There is no-one to fight alongside in DOOM 3, unless there is someone on Xbox Live or System Link with you. And there is no Cooperative or multiplayer on the one console. Report this review >>
