Atari Driver III X Box Action Review

Atari Driver III

Description
Driver 3 is an action-packed driving adventure game that recreates the excitement of a Hollywood blockbuster and plays like an interactive movie. Driver 3 stays true to its roots, incorporating the cinematic gameplay and gritty street crime of its predecessors with ground breaking graphics and three mammoth wide open city environments.

i must start by saying that have been anticipating the release of this game for sometime and i had hoped that it would be all that and then some. i felt that it could be the one to top gta. man was i wrong, this game is crap!!!! if you have played any of the driver series from playstation 1 then you have played this game. the only thing that changed were the graphics and the fact that you can now carry weapons. i liked the driver games from playstation 1 but that was like 5 years ago!!! c'mon this is supposed to be next generation not old generation revisited.

now about the graphics. at first you think the graphics are just too phat and you cant beleive that this is a game but, you soon find out that the programmers spent so much time developing the intro to the game and on the cut scenes that they forgot to make a damn game! the game graphics suck flat out! there is terrible pop-in while driving, building and trees just appear in the distance. that is not supposed to happen on an xbox with an nvidia graphics proccessor people! the cars look good but the people are not the best and the cars all go the same speed. the motorcycles dont go any faster than the cars and if you hit the curb it is like you slammed your bike in to a brick wall. tanner also looks stiff on the bike, he doesnt lean or anything it is like he and the motorcycle are one and the same. the cars blowing up looks pretty good, but i dont know why they even put boats on the game because you drive them from one place to another, big deal!! in my opinion this game and true crime:streets of la are about the same. they both suck!! i dont know why atari ever bothers to make games that involve shooting a gun because obviously they cant make it work. both true crime and driv3r would be a couple of great games if they just had better controls. doesn't atari have a quality control, don't they see the problems before they release this garbage. c'mon, get with it atari your games just plain suck!!

the sound in this game is the same as the other drivers. the same tire sqeals and same police sirens and even the same engine noise. the music is just backround noise nothing to even really notice.

like i said if you played driver 1 or 2 then the gameplay has not changed much. the car still drives the same, crashes the same, and sounds the same. it is not a bad thing either, the driving in all the series is great. the chases are pretty good and the game looks pretty good as well. the game play pretty much goes down the crapper once you get out of the car. tanner (the main character)is stiff as a coffee table. he moves so stupid, it is like he moves side to side when you are trying to turn and it looks so damn goofy. o'yeah and when you try to jump, he like gets off the ground like 2 inches. the shooting in the game is horrible. he shoots before he gets the gun raised and the recticule stays on the screen even when he is not ready to shoot. the game has the same game modes as before: free ride, survival, undercover, ect. in undercover you are tanner( a cop) and you do your missions just like any other game. unlike gta where you can do missions and run all around the city. in this game you cant. when you fail a mission that part of the game is over and you must start it again, you cant just go on to something else. in free ride you can ride around and do what ever you want, but there is nothing to do. just ride around, whoopee!! you can shoot up cars and drive but there is no interaction with anything. you cant go in any building or talk to any one or find any hidden weapons or nothing, you just ride. you can get the cops to chase you but they are easy to evade and easy to kill. you dont get a wanted level and they dont come at you harder the more you kill they just come when they get there..boring!!

Summary:
Many of you have been surprised by the negative criticism DRIV3R faced on it’s first reviews. Fearing the worst, I still coudn’t help myself from buying it the moment I saw it in the stores. And I confess I don’t regret it for a second.

(note: english is not my first language, so please forgive any mistakes I make)

Summary:
The Driver series was always very popular on te Playstation ever since 1998 when the first Driver game. It set standard to make a fully 3D living breathing city rather than the classic top-down view that the old GTA games have. Well, DRIV3R is still that fun game that it was with some improved things and some things that should have been done better.
