$0.00 Summary: WOW! This is by far the best in the Kain series to date and I'll be very impressed if they top this one in the future. The story is very intricate and while they give you some background on it, you'll probably be a little lost if you haven't played any of the other games (Blood Omen 1 and 2, Soul Reaver 1 and 2). It picks up from the end of Soul Reaver 2 but this time includes Kain's part of the story as protagonist AND antagonist while revealing even more about the true nature of Raziel, the Soul Reaver, Kain and how they are all connected in past present and future. As in Soul Reaver 2, there is time travel, making the plot so intricately woven that you'd have to sit there and map it out on a timeline to properly understand it. Which, of course, I love! Ok, onto the gameplay. Soul Reaver 2 was very close, but they nailed it this time...the combat is AWESOME. It's far from button-mashing and with the telekinesis ability (mostly of Kain) and the special move for the different Reavers, there's alot to play around with and have fun. While fighter savvy gamers may scoff at the relative simplicity of the combat system (just compared to a fighting game), even they must admit it looks cool! Which brings us to the graphics which are amazing, in my opinion. Not only the architecture, but the textures and the modeling, everything looks very nice and polished. Quite a step even from Soul Reaver 2. The only problem I had with this game was the "cinematic" style of camera angel, which isn't centered on the character, but switches to various views based on the characters location in the map. I don't see how they could have done this better, however, because it looks great and usually the changes are not distracting. However, there are definitely times when I get frustrated and realize it's because the camera angel is either switching to quickly or to a less than ideal position. However, the storyline, graphics and gameplay way overshadow this minor inconvenience. That and the music and sound effects totally draw you in and it becomes much more of an interactive movie-like experience. The music draws on the same themes as Soul Reaver 2, with a very dark, ambient and cinematic feel to it. This is definitely worth checking out, ESPECIALLY if you're a fan of the Legacy of Kain games. By far the best in the series. Way to go Crystal Dynamics! Report this review >>
