Having said that I'd like to take this review in an entirely different direction and actually praise this version of the game. (bear with me)
For starters State of Emergency is, simply put, a game about "rioting". That's it. From the moment you pop in the disc, select your character and are thrust into the fray, you are surrounded by hundreds of polygons screaming, looting, and basically running around like aimless chickens with their heads cut off. Your job? To further anger the local powers that be and create more insanity than what is already occuring in the hopes of liberating the mindless masses into freedom from said evil corporation. Sounds deep - but trust me it's not. But remember I want to take this review in a new direction so here goes...
Having purchased the PS2 version while still riding high on the hype from GTA3 ("gee if they made GTA3 there's no way in hades they could screw this game up!"...yea..ok.) I was very disappointed to find that this game was 100 percent mindless from beginning to end. There was nothing to this game. You arrive the riot is already in progress. You die, the riot goes on as if you never existed. What's the point? Isn't the fun of being a deviant to actually create the chaos yourself? What's the fun if it's already ongoing and your actions truly make no difference other than when scripted in? Exactly.
So now that we know what went wrong with the PS2 version, there's no way they could screw up on the Xbox right?
Well right and wrong. For starters let's get on over to the gameplay... Report this review >>
