Summary:
Probably the first thing that will come to and gamers mind about quantum is speed. The adds say that you can reach past 900 mph which is true, but that only occurs once you get to redshift level. There are 5 sets of difficulties. Two of the difficulties allow you to zoom at a mere 200-399 mph. It really isn't that fast in the game and it sometimes looks like the developer cheated a bit on the speedometer. Looks more like 140km/h. Anyway, to old school gamers, quantum will remind you of Rock and Roll racing for the snes and sega genesis. There are a total of 16 racers to choose from. The game, however, overpowers certain racers. For one, they have better weapons, good turning etc. while other racers will have horrible weapons, terrible turning, and horrific aerodynamics. The ad says there are over 160 weapons(or is it 150?) Hmm well each racer has a total of only 4 weapons, shields included as a weapon. Basically you just level up on your projectile, shielding, and seeker weapons which the ad counted each level up as a new weapon, but it really isn't. You just shoot out more or your shield last longer. Once all are powered up, you get one nuke. Again, certain characters have way better nukes then others. The race tracks are somewhat ok, but not all spectacular.

Ok forget entirely my review below - you should be able to edit them!

The review below was done in a fit of pique when I first played - I was initially disappointed.

I have now persevered with the game and changed my mind! It's a damn good, not average at all.

it took a bit of getting used to the courses etc, but the game plays very well. Much better than other racers like Project Gotham which really is crap.

Summary:
A very average and inferior Wipeout clone.

Very flawed - as others have said, the courses a rebadly designed. Compared to Wipeout this looks years old in terms of playability.

I want to play futuristic courses which are fast and smooth. These circuits are bumpy, too hard to navigate, stupidly set out, random, easy to get lost on etc.

The best Wipeout courses are the futuristic ones set in Tokyo-like cities where you flash past cities and crowds sweeping along fast straights and sweeping bends. In this if I couldn't follow the people in front i'd get lost in the mess.

And who wants a course going up and down a mountain pass? Or in the desert? I want flash cities as in Akira not this.

The ships are a waste of time.

The weapons idea is so far behind Wipeout it's not funny. You can pick up homing missiles, non-homing missles and shields. Wow! Useless compared to Wipeout which is much more variable in every way.

Very disappointed that they haven't managed to capture what was so good about Wipeout.

Summary:
After the initial shock of the visuals, you'll settle down and find a stupidly fast racer in here which you may or may not warm too. I loved it, i still do, had it for a month and although i haven't been solidly playing it, i still haven't opened up everything there is to offer. It's scary to see the xbox can do this and it's still really a baby. The smooth physics of the ships, react how you'd expect them to, bouncing smoothly and realistically and the sheer speed which i know has put some people off, really can't be moaned at. You won't see another racer no where near this fast until Quantum Redshift 2.

Summary:
[This is my first review so please bear with me.] I am pleasantly surprised! I rate this game 8.5 out of ten. If there were more modes of play I would rate this game a 10 out of 10 which I rarely do (never heard THAT before, right?). Knowing that some of the development team was from the older Wipeout efforts I was very curious how the game would turn out. My fear was a prettier (xbox's graphical power) Wipeout clone. Some could see it that way but upon further inspection this is deeper than one might think. If you combined Wipeout Fusion and Quantum Redshift this would be about as close to perfect as possible. Before talking about gameplay let me say this: If you like any futuristic racer this should fit the bill.
