from WAL MART Summary: Oh my gosh. I didn't even know this game was coming out, at least not anytime soon. To my surprise I walked in to my local Wal-Mart and was looking for a new game to buy. I saw NBA Jam right dab in the middle of the shelf. Originally I went in only to buy Tiger Woods which is also very kewlies, but I loved NBA Street and although I was too little to play the original NBA Jam, I knew that NBA Jam was the father and original arcade basketball game.
The game offers some fun features, but they are pretty skimpy. There is no season mode, no stat tracking, and not a lot of options. There is an exhibition mode, Tournament (play 29 NBA Teams), a fair create a player mode and a Legendary Tournment mode where you get to play with NBA Street legends. The courts are varied, and many are taken directly out of NBA Street Vol 2, all in real time locations along with the NBA arenas too. The game is definitely arcade style, even more than NBA Street. I'm talking the craziest dunks and allyoops you've ever seen. You can't dunk from the three point line in NBA Street, that's what NBA Jam offers. So how does it play?
In a nutshell, they need more stuff. A season mode would have been nice, more camera angles, more offensive moves and better defense. The game seems skimpy as a whole, needs more meat and potatoes to compete with the rest of the competition out there and there is really no reason to own this game if you have NBA Street which offers more and is so much more fun to play. NBA Jam is not bad, just needs more to make it a worthwhile buy.
With the terrific NBA Street on the market, did we really need a similar game of hoops? To be honest, if something were to come out it had to be really special. Unfortunately, although NBA Jam is fun as a whole, it can't match the depth or fun factor that NBA Street Vol 2 offers, it also has some issues too. Report this review >>
