Summary:
Overall NBA Live 2003 is a fun game, but has some weaknesses that need to be fixed for next year's game. There is still a lot of high points in the game. There was many improvments from NBA Live 2002 to NBA Live 2003 and the NBA Live series will only improve. They really need to make the franchise mode more detailed.

Summary:
This is not a bad game: but its not exactly a good one either! When you play it the first thing that comes to mind isnt'"realistic", the word for that would be "arcadey", it's graphics aren't bad either, but not great. When you play this game if you've ever played the old NBA 2K for the Dreamcast, this game will remind you of it.

Summary:
This game has real potential, but is shot out of the air like a bogey by 3-4 major flaws that are not correctable:

-The speed cannot be adjusted. What possibly could they be thinking, seeing how juiced up it is many people will be turned off. It makes the game into NBA Jam 2003, and it makes playing defense a chore.

The BLOCKS?? Who came up with this?? Again all they had to do is have a dyanimic block on/off switch, but NO...this cripples the game, the block system is one of the worst i've ever played with. The timing is completely off, the ball can be out of the players hands, and if you press jump with mike bibby, you can block c-webbs shot WHILE it's in the air. Also blocks just fly a million feet out of the bounds, adding insult to injury. And the cpu. is dumb enough to chase it all the way to your basket!

Steals - sigh, in this instance instead of looking natural, the player reaches out with ONE hand and grabs the ball, half the time over thin air. This ruins the 1-p game on higher difficulty levels, it will motivate you yo pack the game up and trade it in.

Online - BAD move EA, BAD move. I could see if you want to make us jealous with no online support, but your direct, superior competitor has it, so whoever came up with this should be promoted!

The freestyle control is not the most responsive on the xbox pad, so too even do anything cool i'll just end up pressing X. Not that special really, but at times cool.

No sliders. The shot percentage is off, way off. Against the cpu the only sure way to score is to dunk. Wide Open 2ft jump shots clang off the basket. Even two player play gets old when the only way to win is to play like NBA Jam/Street, I played that to death in 93'.

The free throw meter is pretty good.
the fast breaks are better than 2k3.
Franchise mode is average
passes more fluid than 2k3.
1 on 1 is stupid, 2k3's street is much better.
why would they put classic jersey's on the box if you can only use one?

Foul system is not up to par. You can run straight into someone countless times in a game with the OF slider at normal. Crank it up and you'll be called for a OF if you make contact with the defenders jersey. On defense, many offensive fouls are whistled as defensive. You will get a lot of touch fouls. overall not good.

Overall EA needs to think, they almost have the presentation right, as well as most of the graphics and sound. That just needs touching up. They need to spend one more year reworking the gameplay for it to compete with 2k3, specifically a full range of sliders that work properly and sim. gameplay would almost eliminate everything mentioned.

Summary:
How was this game released? This is one of the most disappointing basketball games I have ever played and I have been playing them for years and years. Nothing wrong with a little speed to a game but good grief, these players move faster than a speeding bullet. That freestyle control didn't impress me that much. It makes it easier to score and rarely will you stop your opponent on defense, especially on a harder difficulty.

Summary:
As always, Nba live has been in competition with none other that NBA2K3. But this year with the addition of the freestyle control to create fantastic move combinations, i think this is one of the greatest live games ever and they will continue to get better and better.
