NOTE: Update of a previous review!
In the early 90's every year I would buy the new NHL for the Genesis. This was the first NHL I have bought since NHL 97 on PSX. I must admit that I like this one!!! I rented NHL 2002 and was not impressed at all. Maybe I did not give it chance, but this one sure has my attention. I ended up buying last years Hitz game and loved the replay value! One thing to remember about sports simluations is that not every one will be happy. This game offers a nice replay value, great controls, so-so graphics and very good sound.

Summary:
I love hockey sims but also enjoy arcade hockey, solution: buy Hitz and NHL 2K3, no, buy NHL 2003. I have always loved the EA sports lign of games, I find their games reliable. While NHL 2003, isn't better than NHL 2K3 it's unique, mostly because it has NHL cards that unlock Easter Eggs and player boosts.

Summary:
NHL2003 has to be the biggest dissapointment for me this year. EA Sports was really lazy when the developed this game. Don't get me wrong I love ea sports games but this game was a waste of my time. I tried to give it a fair chance by playing it more but in doing that I only found more bad things about it. Even the unrealistic NHL Hitz was way better than NHL 2003. Now I know why it is the lowest rated hockey game out there this year. EA better shape up for next year or they will lose alot of their hockey gamers.

Summary:
Get ready to feel the heat, intensity, power and control of the best hockey game! EA Sports has raised the standards of hockey games and NHL 2003 is no exception. With a combination of commanding gameplay, realistic graphics, awesome music and a whole bunch of extras, NHL 2003 is the game to buy. I personally loved this game because of the fact that the gamer is taken to centre ice and given control of the team and players. You can control your team off the ice in depth through Franchise Mode and also, you feel in control of players on the ice with incredible dekes and stickhandling. When I start playing this game, I feel the intensity of actually going to the rink and watching a professional game due to the fantastic graphics and on-ice sounds and music. The game has many modes from franchise to playoffs and also includes many extras such as videos of how EA produced the game - which are fairly interesting to watch. If you are a hockey fan or not, you should definitely buy this game because it is a great gaming experience.

Summary:
I used to be a big fan of EA's hockey franchise, but the past few incarnations have been nothing short of terrible. Basically, these games have fallen into line with EA's branding concept of making games that non-videogame people can enjoy. The symptoms of this usually include un-challenging, un-realistic and arcadey gameplay, oversimplified controls, and an overemphasis on 'beautiful' graphics (hey, as long as it looks good, who needs brains - right?). NHL 2003 has all these qualities in spades. I suffered through 2 hours of silly arcade hockey in order to give this game a fair look. I came away unsuprised that EA came out with another dud.
