from software etc. Summary: Beautiful but far from flawless. I've neen an EA guy since "Bulls Vs Blazers" and have kept of the NBA Live series as my one and only b-ball sim until now. I had always had a problem with the lack of realism in those games (point guards leading the league in blocks and all that), so I made the switch to Sega this year. I was a little dissapointed at first to find the gameplay almost indistinguishable from EA's games. But add the nearly flawless franchise mode and the all new and superchallenging 24-7 mode and now we're talking. Not to mention TONS of unlockables such as all-time great teams for all the NBA's franchises. I've all but stopped playing the team games and instead have become transfixed by the franchise mode where I concentrate on my GM duties and simulate all the games. After all, I don't have the time to play through whole seasons and any gamer worth his salt can win the title every season with no trouble regardless of his players. The real challenge, for me, is building a team good enough to win without my immediate control. THe 24-7 mode requires you to create a baller in your own image and pit him in all sorts of streetball matches aginst NBA players. The players you defeat will give you their number so you can partner up with them in the 2-on-2 games. You also get rewards like new jerseys, shoes, glasses, all kinds of cool stuff to customise your appearance with. But you will have to work it. YOu have to train and train some more because your stats start out terrible and the game gets exponentially more difficult (even frustratingly so) as you rise through the ranks. Still, the rewards are worth it. Different match types (such as all 3-pointer matches, no jump shots allowed, time limits, and no turbo) are available at different times of the day or night. You also have to play every day or your hard-earned stats will deteriorate. Unfortunately the rules in the matches only apply to you and not the computer which creates some serious frustration at the elite level of the game. Still, this game is a must-have for basketball junkies. Report this review >>
