Summary: I remember being a young kid sifting through my dad's movie collection and coming across a movie called Rocky. It had Sylvester Stallone, and at that age I thought he was one of the baddest people to ever walk the face of the earth, so I decided to watch it. Well after the movie was done and he had shown Apollo Creed a thing or two, I got up, shut the tv off, and went outside and started to run and and jump rope, and basically act like I was training for some big boxing match. Of course that lasted for all of five minutes, but I was exhilerated, and excited. I had to see all the rest of the movies. I love them all, with Rocky IV being my favorite. Ivan Drago. Now that's one scary man.
Well now its some 12 or 13 years later, and my beloved Rocky gets a videogame on the three major platforms. I don't really like videogames, so I stayed away. Well the professional reviews gave it pretty good scores, so I decided to pick it up, since I saw it for only $20, what could I lose.
So I took it home, set it up, played for about 30 minutes and hated it. I thought to myself, what crappy controls, what crappy graphics, what a boring game. The cpu seemed to cheat all the time, I couldn't even beat Spider Rico, c'mon, just how fun can this game be.
My friend came over later, and he wanted to play. So we did. And lo and behold, the game magically transformed into something else. It became fun. Pounding on each other with the classic Rocky characters is a thrill and a half. I caught myself yelling "Cut me Mick!" a few times, although I was playing as Drago, so that didn't really make any sense, but I was so caught up in the moment. We kept playing, and we started to learn the intricacies of the game. I learned many combos and startegies, and the game became fun. This is what video games should be. Fun. I'm not killing anyone, I'm not fying through the air on a 50 foot dragon, but I'm having fun.
After your done with you playing time with the game, you'll want to go and work out, run, jog, jump rope, or if you're like me sit down and watch boxing on HBO!
Summary: Listen, I own over 20 xbox games and know a good game from a bad one. I've downloaded the "walkthrough" for this game just to make sure there wasn't anything I'm missing.
To make a long story short, this is one of the worst xbox games I own, and one of the weakest games I've ever played period. So be warned and don't waste your money on this one. It's not even worth a rental.
I fully expected to enjoy this game since I love boxing games and fighting games, I like boxing, I loved the Rocky movies, I thought Knockout Kings 2k3 was at least average, etc. I thought Rocky was going to be a fun game.
Friends, I don't get it. This is pure nonsense when a review states "one of the best parts about this game is the training between fights." Did you buy this game for the fights, or for this other boring distraction. The training between fights is just your generic (hit A,B,X, and Y when the number flashes up on the screen). It really annoys me when that's all it takes to impress some people. But I've never personally met anyone on the face of this earth who'd be impressed with that stupid activity. I only read about people who like doing this on these stupid game review sites.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this site. But some of the senseless jabber that goes on in here is beyond comprehension.
I am very disappointed that people could give this game high approval, since it is a weak game. It's as simple as that.
Summary: Rocky is a really good game. One of the best thing about Rocky is the training in between fights. There is Skipping (Stamina), Situps (Determination), Punching Bag (Movement), Speed Bag (Speed) and Punch Mits (Strength).
These games are all so good, except situps. Its just button bashing. But I guess this is good because skilled players can do well at everything, whereas button bashers can only do well at one thing. So it's probably for the best.
The damage modelling is so realistic. If you work the right half of your opponents face for 15 rounds with mostly jabs, Your oponent will have a completely messed up right half, with the left half fine! It is so good. Unlike most boxing games where, you hit him and there is programmed damage built in, so you may hit him in the stomach and his face will bruise. Rocky is really awesome.
The fighting controls are great too, they are comfortable, and easy to learn, but take skill to master. Just what you want. Button bashers will not be able to get away with it anymore (apart from sit-ups!).
The crowd, as you have probably already heard, is fully 3d animated. It is so, so cool. If your in a dingy run-down gym, and the fight starts to get boring, they will throw bottles at you! They look so realistic too, other games will no longer get away with cardboard.
The fighters look absiloutely brilliant. This is so close to the movie it is scary, for eg. When Apollo Creed makes his entrance in Rocky 1, he is wearing exactly what he wore in the movie, and came in on a boat, with the same tune! It is so cool!
The Arenas are lifelike. They look so real. You can read the writing on the ring, and these also are the same as of that in the movie. Rocky's first fight in the movie is in the chapel place. Same in the game! Cool.
Then there's multiplayer! You'll never, ever get tired of this. Best ever.
Summary: This is a solid arcade boxing beat em up. I say arcade, because it isn't really a sim, but this is easily the best boxing game on the market. Even if you hate Rocky movies, read on!
Normally, I hate boxing games, so why do I like this? Well, for a start it is very authentic. You will recognise characters, areanas, music - everything is a s it was in the movies. And so they should be! This is the second recent movie licenced game that I love (see my review for Die Hard Vendetta on gamecube), so maybe things are changing from my era where movie licences were used to con us all out of money! (i think i may have to take that back if i buy another!).
Summing up, the graphics are excellent, the sound is good and the gameplay will have you hooked for hours! This is a first class game.

Summary: Sixteen years ago in 1987 I watched Rockys 1-4 and liked them very much. So it should be no surprise that I like Rocky for the XBOX. On movie mode you fight over twenty fighters. At first I feared that Tommy Gunn might not be included because he and Rocky had a street-fight instead of a prizefight in Rocky V. But I was glad to learn that Gunn was included. You also fight Apollo Creed,Clubber Lang,Ivan Drago and many more. The game is fairly easy to play. I bought it on a Wednesday afternoon and by Thursday I had beat it. The graphics are also superb. But there was two things about this game that I disliked. First of all, it doesn't let you have the first person view and second, When I got knocked down more than once per bout, I couldn't get back up. If you are a Rocky fan, you should buy this game. It was also made for the PS2 and GC. I also have an old Rocky game that was made for the Colecovision years ago. But Rocky for the XBOX kicks the crap out of it. I highly rate this game.
