Summary This Game is a great challenge. The graphics are poor but the internal system is huge. It was one of the most realistic games I have ever played in terms of the size of the world. This game rocks!Sound The sound overall was pretty good. The backround music could have been better. The nature sounds were good. The fight sounds did kind of stink.Gameplay The first two hours were pretty challenging and required a lot of patience. The rest of the game play was easy sailing. The game was enjoyable. The fights were good but could have been better I don't Know how it could have been better unless you have 4 players. The fights were a little slow. The game included many things. You had to use your brain in some parts.(I think that is why many people don't like itWould you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I trully enjoyed this game. if you don,t like to sit on your but and play periods of time this game might not be for you.Thiss game has the basic essence of a true rpg. I truly enjoy playing this game in my free time. Although there are some faults and the game play can be boring some times it has somthing to it that won,t let you put the controller down.Sound the sound is ok. itis very repetitive and yet addictingGameplay the gameplay is awsome. By far the best part of the game. the charachters can really determine the course of the game. Agood set of charachters can carry you through the whole game. A bad choice can get you killed by the simplest of monsters. you have to play the game the way you would if you were the main character. The chances are that you will have to consult a cheat book or internet site more than once during the game. If your one of those people that hate to look up the way to do things in a game you probably wont whant to play this game. the bigining of the game is very long and mostly boring but once you get a couple of hours into it you whont whant to put down the controller.Would you like to Comment? I had nothing else to do, though, I was a senior in college. Read it and weep:Sound Oh, is that what that's called? Unreal. Muting it is a good idea, if not the best idea I've ever heard. That's the single most memorable thing from the game (I am starting over). How did I survive? And when my character dies, it's downright frightening. Scary.Same manly sound, even when a girl dies..go figure.Gameplay Sure, the beginning was unbelievably boring. I may be biased about game play, because like I said above, I had nothing else to do. And I think when the system is calling you at wee hours of the night, it can't be that bad...can it...?Would you like to Comment? Summary Yawn! This game is boring. Once you've started, there are so many pauses for simple little words. It takes to much time. The beginning was stupid, and I really disliked it. Once I got into it, it was okay except for that.Sound Covers ears! Omg, what is that? The music repeats itself instead of changing. The beat gets different. That's All! The footstep sounds aren't all that good. I think the mouths should have moved on the characters, and they should have said it. Alot more time needs to be spent on this game.Gameplay Sigh!Again, Boring. The graphics, horrible, distorted, hard to find your way around the castle and lands. Magick properties were stupid also. They sucked. And the names are almost imposible to say.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By John P.From Franklin, TN Review Date 07/17/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 1 of 5 Rate this review? Summary This is one of the two worst Nintendo games we've ever tried to play. If somebody sunk $40 in it then he might feel like he had to play it for 20+ hours. And if he spent that much time on it and didn't otherwise have a life, he might feel like he was caught up in it. But if you haven't spent the money already, don't bother. There are too many other games out there. It appeared to be Zelda-like, but it isn't close that that level.Sound The sound effects and music were so weak that I can't even recall them. I guess that could make this the worst part, but I don't think so.Gameplay It was a little slow getting started because it seemed different from other games. It was good that they had a "Help" but it was very weak. The gay mindgames are distracting from the beginning. The system took over the action too often and for too long. It had far more choppy, lame and useless dialog than the average game. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Yawn! This game takes along time to really start, and the controls (especialy in battle) are hard to figure out. If you stick with it and look more at the story than the poor, yet large scale graphics, it is actually a good game. It has a great story, and the huge world is always changing. don't play unless you have an expansion pack though. all around i think it is a very good game, once you have gotten 10 or more hours into it.Sound I like it, although repetative it DOES change on where you get to. the battle sounds should be amped up a lil, but that is minor.Gameplay hard at first, very hard and slow. Hang with it and it becones natural and ok. It took so much time to start and play, that anyone renting it would break the cartridge before renting it again. the battles could use some help but overall it is good.Would you like to Comment? Summary Aloha! My name is Hamieki. By the way, This game sucks!Man, I have never seen such a game that is worst then even E.T. for the Atari 2600. Are we in a streak that gets us to another video game crash like it did back in 1983, or something, but this game just puts me in to such a disaster that tries to tear my relation apart from Nintendo. But I realised that it was THQ that goes in to a horrible slump when creating games. THQ was sort of good when making Quest 64 for the N64... But when it comes to Aidyn Chronicals, it makes me think that THQ does not need to make a game good to make some money. Well, THQ, That does not work that way. Square with Final Fantasy, Midway with Mortal Kombat, and Capcom with Breath of Fire knows this. And by the way, You don't need to put smog in the graphics. And here's this: If you are planning to make Aidyn Chronicals: The First Mage 2, GET RID OF THAT BLURRY SMOG FROM THE GRAPHICS! I JUST hate that smog. And, Put the next game on the Gamecube, will ya? Either way, This game stinks. I will never accept any game with smoggy graphics, bad sound effects AND THE MUSIC (Boy these notes of the music is repetative and nasty), and sucky controls. Please avoid this intolerable bad excuse of this pathetic cruddy poopy stink and go with Zelda, Paper Mario, or Quest 64 instead, if you don't own these games. If you have these games, then just go another round at this. There are better games for your PS2 or even your PSX/PSone. You don't need a 60 dollar piece of crud, so don't buy it. Mahalo! Sound Ponn, Ponn, Pom, Pom, Papapapa. Repeat... Ponn, Ponn, Pom, Pom, Papapapa. Very repetative and nasty, music. I just can't stand it. I'd rather listen to elevater music for 2398457324598 hours then to even listen another hour of this...And the sounds. tp...tp...tp...tp...that is the footsteps that Alaron makes when you move it. Bad bad bad. Please don't get this. A waste of money and time, and boy I feel embarest when I bought this bad crud. Blech, and enough with this. Mahalo. Gameplay Blech! It's just amazing how bad the controls it can be. When I get Alaron to walk, he skips alot, like he has screwed up frames of animation or that the game just runs choppy and slow, even with the expansion pack in. But whatever is slowing this game down, I don't know, but I know for one thing, THQ has to rework their strategy on creating a good controls, so that at least Alaron would move smothly, and at least RUN when I press the control stick all the way.And the battle sequence. Bleeccchhhh! I just can't stand how bad of a battle system they use. First of all, the enemies are sometimes stupid, like they just run in to others when in the back, and sometimes I have to wait for a long time for my turn to come up, because this freak'n thing is slow and repetative. In fact, after a few battle sequences, you will wind your self throwing the N64 switch off, taking out the cartridge, and then hurling this thing across this room, not because this game is hard, but because you are expecting something better out of your 60 bucks you used when you are purchasing this game. Perhaps that they need to be a little more careful when planning on such expensive technology. But THQ does not care. 60 bucks...loss. BECAUSE THQ WANTS TO ROB PEOPLE'S MONEY ON TO BUYING A STINKING GAME! Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This game is incredible if you are willing to look past the under-par graphics.(I would like to mention that if you have an expansion pak you can change to high resolution mode). This Game combines everything I like in an RPG. The one thing I would add is better spellcasting and multiplayer capabilitiesSound The sound is good, but extremely repetitive. Some of the noises scare me.(I mute the the thing)Gameplay I find the gameplay in this game to be confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is really good. I especially enjoy using warriors to ax up week characters.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Many people have there different opion about this game. Some say it is horrible and some say it is the greatest game they have ever played. It is not the worst one I've played nor the best. A major down to the game is the fact that you have to have a controller pak and you can't use a rumble pak. As to renting it or buying it I think you should buy it. The reason I think so is because you never will have enough time to play the whole game if you just rent it. Don't by it unless it's onsale though.Sound The sound was the worst thing about the game. There were only a few differnt sounds that each character made. The designers of the game definitely did not take there time on the sound effects. All the sounds are the same. If a male dies every one makes the same cry, even Alaron. I thought his voice effects did not go well with him. The weapons always make the same sound effects. The music is also very boring and basic. The sounds often in the end get on peoples nerves hearing the same ones over and over again.Gameplay This game will definitely keep you busy. The storyline is very long. It takes quite a while to get around and get everything done because the game map is do big. The game is a RPG/adventure game. If you run into someone while you are walking around you automatically go into RPG mode. This is another reason why the game is so long. The storyline is also very nice. You also meet differnt people, races and villans along the way.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. THQ made a winning streak of the best games in the past year and now that winning streak has ended. man does THQ suck at making roleplaying games.when i first heard of this game i thought it would be simaller to paper mario but i was wrong.first of all i rented it to see if it was good. when i started to play it i thought it would be fun. mainly the plot is to go around in battles with your team members whitch you can only choose four of them to be in your party whitch is a very lame team name.and most of the characters you get to choose suck like crap, the only good one is sir abrecian whitch is not very strong when you reach the middle of the game.and boy do those battles suck its very hard to defeat one little bat with your sword and im not joking. the magic and weapons all suck too the only good magic power is the one where you defeat the enemie one hit and the only good weapon is the broadsword.so i suggest you dont buy this game actully i dont suggest you rent this game actully i dont suggest you look at this game it will damage your eyes. and if you still arent satisfied with my review (whitch you should be)read the rest.Sound the sound and music of this game is the WORST.when one of your party members die they scream in horror and it gets really annoying fast because you die in like 2 or 3 hits and when your guy dies he goes ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh and sinks into the ground whitch is preety stupid.the music gets boring fast because the same music gets played over and over again, the music at the towns is fairly good but not good enough.and when your in the battle modes it makes music like this:nananananananana boom nananananananana boom and all over again until the battle ends.so the sound sucks too please dont buy or rent or even look at this game. so this is my final line, adian chornicles:the first mage SUCKS LIKE SHI*. Gameplay the gameplay for this game is crap.before i tell you why i forgot to mention that the characters name that you control is alaron.now on to the gameplay.the gameplay sucks because alaron is so damn hard to control for example:when you try to move forward you move backwards.and alaron moves as slow as a turtle with no legs.so i have to say the gameplay SUCKS.Would you like to Comment? It has many difrent twists and no matter how many times you play you will always find something new and challengingSound The sound is good, it could use a few more diffrent sounds for the characters voices when they get injured.Gameplay The game play is great. The only thing that i am not overly fond of is the amount of people you can have in your partyWould you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Aidyn Chronicles is one of those games you think will be great as you eagerly await it's arrival so you can hire it out and find out for yourself. As soon as i held the game in my little hands, i rushed to my N64 in put it into the machine and watch in anticipation what i though was going to be a very good game. To say the least i was dissapointed, but don't get me wrong, this is a good game. It has some major flaws, but it does have alot of depth and strategy, very important elements in any RPG.Sound Sound to say the least is dissapointing. There isn't enough music when 'trekking' which can make it very boring and tiresome at times. All you hear mostly are your footsteps and the howls of wolves, but it does add significantly to the atmosphere. When the music is existent though, it is surprisingly decent with nice orchestral tunes, very pleasing to the ear. However, H20 could've done so much better with the sound effects.Gameplay Gameplay in Aidyn can be very slow when fighting a large group of enemies and this can make the gameplay very repetitive and frustrating. There is alot of strategy and if patient, there is a lot of depth that can be found. The slow gameplay is reminiscent of the Final Fantasy games, but unfortunately Aidyn is slower. However, there is a good variety of enemies to be found within the large world of Aidyn. The enemies do make fighting interesting and challenging and once a battle is won, you are rewarded with battle experience and usually gold and items. The experience system is clever to say the least, with many different skills and attributes to upgrade increasing the depth of gameplay. Trekking around the world of Aidyn is extremely slow as it may take you simply half an hour of walking to get from point A to B. The large landscapes do make trekking interesting as there are many hidden treasure chests to be found by exploring.Would you like to Comment? Though the gaphics are realy a lot of blocks, and sound is only good in towns, it is RPG. It's for those why like stratigy and charictor growth not crisp colorful charictors.Sound The sounds in city's are great, mostly. And the sound of a screaming foe is always nice. Most other times there just as bad as the graphics.Gameplay Gameplay in Aidyn is long and involved. To stop is to lose your train of thought, and that may be your doom. To handle the various creatures of chaos, you must not be smart, you must be daring. Even i was conservative my first time around, stoping befor the goblin caves, chaos island and such, that's why it took for ever. So hit 'em hard and fast young mage.Would you like to Comment? Summary This game is okay for die hard fans of crappy rpg's, but for everyone else, you might want to check out the legend of zelda series, or the final fantasy series.Sound It is very quiet, and it is SO FREAKING ANNOYING in battles, but in the towns, in you turn up the sound and just listen to it, it is not so bad.Gameplay It's okay once you get into it (which can take up to 30 hours). It captures the very essence of an old-time RPG. Oh the days of dice and graph paper... Well now you don't have get writer's cramp from all the maps. Well now you'll have to settle for thumb cramp.Sound Wow! Talk about sound!! The best sound i have heard all year!Gameplay Well, well, well. The plot is as deep as a Star Wars movie. The leveling up abilities are great! My favorite part of the abilities is the skills. It's cool how the skills help you in battle. And I love the battle system!!!!!!Would you like to Comment? Summary This is probably one of the best rpg's I've ever played. The game is not perfect, but what it lacks in some areas, such as graphics, it makes up in overall plot. I've read some of the reviews and frankly i'm dissappointed in the lack of depth that, that these reviewers have given it. Most of the bad reviews come from people that havent really invested a whole lot of time into the game. The game starts slowly, but by the 20th hour played you become totally addicted. To those out there that find this game "gay" or "terrible" my suggestion to them is to invest about 20 more hours. If at that time you don't like the game, Oh well, to each his own.Sound The Sound was good. I thought that the sound in the castle was a little crazy though. It probably could have been more of a Braveheart sound. Some sound did not match the overall scheme of the game setting, but overall it was good.Gameplay The gameplay in this RPG is great. At first I did'nt really like the turn based fighting, but after awhile It got quite good. In fact, the more I built up my characters dexterity, the more I found that i could get more hits than the enemy. The best thing about this game is that you can start as weak as a kitten and wind up as strong as a lion. It takes brains to play this game. If ya don't got brains, (like some of the reviews i've read) stay away.As the gameplay progresses so does your character. If your smart, you'll know how to invest your characters XP's. Invest wisely and you can make your character nearly invincible. I think that where most people get frustrated in this game is when they can't build their character fast enough. As I always say though, Good things come to those who wait. If I could build my character really fast, where would the fun be? I paid $50 bucks for this game and i want to get my moneys worth. The best thing about this game though, is the story line. If you can stick with it, it continues build. As you discover who Alaron really is, you can get lost in the Story. Finally, a suggestion to any of you who are considering this game. If you are a true RPG player, You'll love it. If you want fast a furious play at the begenning then you'll be dissappointed, but if you wait and are patient, you may just find yourself addicte to this game. Good Job to the makers of this game, I hope there's a Aidyn Chronicles 2. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Overall, this is an okay game to spend your money on. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone other than a true RPG fan though. I don't think they would appreciate the long hours of trying to level build that this game requires.Sound The sound in this game is hardly noticeable at all. One has to listen carefully to realize that it is even there. However when you actually listen to it, it is very war-like. Lots of drums and not too much other music.Gameplay The gameplay was decent. It is hard to find your way around at some places of the game, but the plot is terrific. If you are one of those RPG fans who likes plot more than battle, I reccomend this game. Not unlike Final Fantasy Tactics where there are fewer battles, but they last longer, giving you more appreciation when you finally achieve victory.Would you like to Comment? How come people like this title? How can people go on to say, "You just have to keep playing and then the fun comes out?" I play this for 25 hours, and it never went fun. All I got was a gay battle system, gay sounds, and a terrable storyline. It is a waste of money, waste on electronics, waste on plastic, and a waste of electricity. This game's gay. It is very gay. Please get a used PSX and get Final Fantasy IX instead. That game is lightyears better then this. Sound Whoever recorded that horrible music is gay. It consists of notes being done on a 30-year-old low-end keyboard found in a junk-yard.The sound...well it is gay. The sound, well, I can't make out the sound. It only sounds like crap from an old warn-out cassete. It is just a gay game. Please stay away from this and buy on of the other games instead. Gameplay It has a gay gameplay. You get stuck in one area and have to jiggle to get him out. The battles are hard to controll, and I would rather eat gay sauce then play this game.Would you like to Comment?
