Summary

Winback is a fresh idea with a few problems that comes through in the end. It has some syphon filter, but with better graphics and moves. It has a little bit of MGS, mostly the 3rd person view. I don't see why people are comparing it to goldeneye, the only similarities are it has guns and it has the same plot. To me the two games seem like night and day, mostly due to the changes caused by the 1st and 3rd person views. If you like a game with movie-style action this may be for you. The characters can be pretty cool if you pay attention to detail, for example, the main badguy packs a Desert Eagle like the agents in the matrix. I thought that was a nice touch, a good bad guy needs a mean gun. Dan, my favorite turncoat character, has a beretta 92, also fitting since he seems to have an aura of control around him, like a cop. A lot of cops around here carry the same.

Sound

The sound is the only place where this game hurts. The music, while appropriate, is extrememly repetetive. There aren't more than 5 or 6 different tunes. If you like the first tune you hear in the game, you should be ok. If you don't, just turn the music off. I don't mind it, i think i just tuned it off around the third level. There aren't any voices, except hey and stop from the enemies. Nothing notable. Sound is allright, from footsteps to gunfire. I like the sound of the shotgun, it lets out a nice belch, and the dadadadadadadadada of the MP5 sounds ok also. The sound in this game isn't good or bad, and it doesn't hurt the game much, if at all. The music, however, does.

Gameplay

This game mostly consists of running around opening doors and shooting people. Thats what you do from level 1 to the end. The good part is, Jean Luc's combat moves. While the control takes getting used to, one can dive and roll and duck against wall and pop out and pop a cap without a problem if they practice a little bit. The controls are different to say the least, but if you have the patience to get used to them you'll see where this game shines. Ducking behind a crate then rolling out with an MP5 A3 to dispatch a group of enemies with ease and finesse is infinitly satisfying. The multiplayer is something to remember. Like I said, i love the maneuvers you can do. I love even more twisting around a corner to show my pal the business end of my Spas 12 Gauge. The characters in multiplayer are a nice touch, because some of them have special guns that never need to be reloaded. The multiplayer arenas are very well designed, and are great for a cinema flavored shoot-out. The only problem with multiplayer is the control; it hinders friends from just picking up the controller and having at it and having a great time, as it frustrates all but the persistant.

Summary

Overall i have to say this is the best game i have ever played on any console. I dont think i have ever gotten into any ohter game as much as this one. Goldeneye as good but were its movment of charcaters and originality og game play WinBack was way better. I have played metak gear solid i found that almost up here but i could never get addicted to it like i can this. Unlike goldeneye there werent 2000 guns and 50 explosives to choose from, instead there were a hand gun, hand gun w/silencer shot gun, machine gun and a rocket launcher. Unlike Bond u acually did need to use certain guns at certain times. It made it intersting to find out different and easier ways to beat the levels. And i thought the funnest part of the whole game was getting the "lethal shots" it makes it seeem so reall. I jus cant stop talking about this game

Sound

The sound is also down the toilet. The music literally does not change at all during the entire game except for during cut scenes. It has three music tracks, one for when your life is full, one for when it is not so full, and another for when you're just about dead. Awful, awful, awful.

Gameplay

The play control of Winback is nothing short of morbid. Stupid controls will do little to help a floundering game. You can't just shoot, you have to hold R to do so. You change weapons with the top C button and your choice of weapons is unforgivably feeble. There's a pistol, shotgun, machine gun, and a Rocket launcher. Thats it, no variety of guns in any of the categories, 4 is all you get. What is also retarded is the way reality is depicted here. Enemies will do TONS more damage if they run over and kick you than they do if they hurl rockets down your throat. Pathetic at best.

Summary

Now some people think that this game is Metal Gear solid for n64 well in many ways I totally disagree because this game has a character who works for a huge team of losers and a lot of the game play elements are different and plus it is by a completely different company but in many ways this is a good game but Metal Gear Solid beats the crap out of it and play station 2 is getting the best game of all time Metal Gear solid 2 it will be the best gameof all time. Now Winback has good gameplay and it has some damn good sound for an n64 game but some people hate the graphics but there is no problem with them at all. Winback has a wierd fighting system because you aim your gun at who you are shooting and then you fire instead of just shooting right away. Now this game is so dificult I can not get to even the first boss charcter. This game is good in every way shape or form but it just does not have anything amazing in it. Overall this game is good but not great.

Summary

With all due respect to the game,Golden Eye ruled the roost with N64 action/thrillers for far to long. Two years of the same over-filtered corridor shooting cannot be healthy. Then Rare released Perfect Dark,a brilliant game that deserves all the credit in the world, but it still wasn't that different to Golden Eye. It's heartening to know then, that owners of the N64 should finally be getting a game that offers something a little different and every bit as fun as Perfect Dark and Golden Eye.
Winback puts you in the shoes of Lean-Luc, a young and talented member of a specialist tactical response group that's been deployed to neutralise a terrorist organisation. The threat: these terrorists were able to hijack a satellite equipped with a powerful laser cannon and are threatening to destroy every major city on the planet unless there demands are met.The adventure that ensues is a thrilling super-spy adventure straight out of the movies whcih will no doubt please most action fans.

Sound

Not the strongest aspect of the game, but the sounds are still great. The sound effects are fairly heavy and impacting, but they could have been better. If the sound effects are good,it makes firing an automatic weapon feel so much better.Sound also provides an atmosphere that can make for a better gaming experience,Thankfully,Koei have also succeeded in this department. An excellent effort from Koei.

Gameplay

Winback is viewed from a 3rd person perspective, similar to Tomb Raider or Shadowman, and you must use the analogue stick to navigate your way through the enemy compound. Pressing the Z button allows you to crouch, and pressing the A button while doing so will also let you perform a barrel roll.Weapons controls are surprisingly easy. Pressing the right shoulder button will lift your weapon, and a set of green crosshairs will automatically set its sights on the nearest target within your weapon's range. Even if a target is out of range, there's a very useful laser pointer that allows you to perform some pinpoint accurate shots.Beyond these basic functions are a set of strikingly realistic actions and manoeuvres that place Winback well above the usual humdrum adventure game. Pressing the A button while close to a wall will cause you to press your back up against it. You can then edge yourself along the wall, get closer up to the corner, and then use the camera controls to peer around the corner to see if there are any enemy soldiers lurking about. From that position, you can press the right shoulder button, step out from behind the corner in true Hollywood fashion, and take out whoever's standing in front of you. Winback also features a multiplayer mode that allows you and three friends to go head-to-head with against each other. Each map offers numerous obstacles, exploding barrels, shotguns, and machine guns with which to defeat your opponent. In addition to the usual deathmatch, the game offers teamplay options, time limits and so on.The added value of this mode is immeasurable, being the most addictive N64 multiplayer game i have played this side of Perfect Dark and Worms:Armageddon.

Summary

I own both a Playstation and a Nintendo 64. I bought Metal Gear Solid hearing the rave reviews about how fun and long it took to beat. I rented Winback and I was blown away. Nintendo games are generally a generation newer than Playstation. I'm afraid Metal Gear Solid has more in common with SNES games than with N64's Winback. MGS is blurry, repetitive (very repetitive), and doesn't necessarily require skill to win (luck will do it just fine). Winback does have a different feel than the best game I have ever played, Goldeneye, and I have to say that it is the games only drawback. Looking over the person's shoulder is quite disorienting when the camera angle decides to change on you, but the moves like ducking behind a corner and rolling around are definite advantages and should be copied in future games. Worth the money and Winback and Goldeneye together are worth spending $99 for the N64.
