Winback: Covert Operations for Nintendo 64 Videos >>
Summary Winback is a fresh idea with a few problems that comes through in the end. It has some syphon filter, but with better graphics and moves. It has a little bit of MGS, mostly the 3rd person view. I don't see why people are comparing it to goldeneye, the only similarities are it has guns and it has the same plot. To me the two games seem like night and day, mostly due to the changes caused by the 1st and 3rd person views. If you like a game with movie-style action this may be for you. The characters can be pretty cool if you pay attention to detail, for example, the main badguy packs a Desert Eagle like the agents in the matrix. I thought that was a nice touch, a good bad guy needs a mean gun. Dan, my favorite turncoat character, has a beretta 92, also fitting since he seems to have an aura of control around him, like a cop. A lot of cops around here carry the same.Sound The sound is the only place where this game hurts. The music, while appropriate, is extrememly repetetive. There aren't more than 5 or 6 different tunes. If you like the first tune you hear in the game, you should be ok. If you don't, just turn the music off. I don't mind it, i think i just tuned it off around the third level. There aren't any voices, except hey and stop from the enemies. Nothing notable. Sound is allright, from footsteps to gunfire. I like the sound of the shotgun, it lets out a nice belch, and the dadadadadadadadada of the MP5 sounds ok also. The sound in this game isn't good or bad, and it doesn't hurt the game much, if at all. The music, however, does.Gameplay This game mostly consists of running around opening doors and shooting people. Thats what you do from level 1 to the end. The good part is, Jean Luc's combat moves. While the control takes getting used to, one can dive and roll and duck against wall and pop out and pop a cap without a problem if they practice a little bit. The controls are different to say the least, but if you have the patience to get used to them you'll see where this game shines. Ducking behind a crate then rolling out with an MP5 A3 to dispatch a group of enemies with ease and finesse is infinitly satisfying. The multiplayer is something to remember. Like I said, i love the maneuvers you can do. I love even more twisting around a corner to show my pal the business end of my Spas 12 Gauge. The characters in multiplayer are a nice touch, because some of them have special guns that never need to be reloaded. The multiplayer arenas are very well designed, and are great for a cinema flavored shoot-out. The only problem with multiplayer is the control; it hinders friends from just picking up the controller and having at it and having a great time, as it frustrates all but the persistant.Would you like to Comment? Take the problem of GoldenEye (the satillite that's going to hit somewhere), and your average Metal Gear Solid, Syphon Filter type of game. Mix all together (add in a bad camera, and bad movement) and all together you have Winback in a nutshell.Sound The sound it another good aspect of the game, if you like to hear the same MIDI sample over and over again. There was to be a total of 5 songs for 32 levels. Not to mention the bland cut scene they throwat you. Also, the only thing good with the sound is if you get shot enough it turns into a high supsense song.Gameplay The gameplay for this game stinks compared to treasures like MGS and SF. Our hero, Jean-Luc moves slower than a fat man running on a hot summers day! You get into a gun fight and tell you this guy to roll. Your character will sit there and think about it for a monent, and then decide it's the best thing to do. But hey, it's too late, by this time your already dead! This is the worse part of the game.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Overall i have to say this is the best game i have ever played on any console. I dont think i have ever gotten into any ohter game as much as this one. Goldeneye as good but were its movment of charcaters and originality og game play WinBack was way better. I have played metak gear solid i found that almost up here but i could never get addicted to it like i can this. Unlike goldeneye there werent 2000 guns and 50 explosives to choose from, instead there were a hand gun, hand gun w/silencer shot gun, machine gun and a rocket launcher. Unlike Bond u acually did need to use certain guns at certain times. It made it intersting to find out different and easier ways to beat the levels. And i thought the funnest part of the whole game was getting the "lethal shots" it makes it seeem so reall. I jus cant stop talking about this gameSound Sounds were good aswell. The reallistic Yelling of enemys and blowing of c4 explosives was impressive. Your guns had a whole new sounds and didnt sound ne thing like a copy from goldeneye or metal gear solid.Gameplay Well i am really impress. The way the controls are sett up are original and WinBack makes u seem so undercover/covert i cant get enough. Just the way that u hide behind walls and jump out to shoot down yey enemy is jus soo much better than goldeneye. I have been playen for 7 hrs straight becuase is jus so easy to want to play more and more. It started to get really hard near the end but that just made it more fun.Would you like to Comment? Summary A good story and nice graphics are a great way to start off a game, however, things can go terribly wrong from there. Winback is the prime example of game that should have been good, but instead ends up as useless crap.Sound The sound is also down the toilet. The music literally does not change at all during the entire game except for during cut scenes. It has three music tracks, one for when your life is full, one for when it is not so full, and another for when you're just about dead. Awful, awful, awful.Gameplay The play control of Winback is nothing short of morbid. Stupid controls will do little to help a floundering game. You can't just shoot, you have to hold R to do so. You change weapons with the top C button and your choice of weapons is unforgivably feeble. There's a pistol, shotgun, machine gun, and a Rocket launcher. Thats it, no variety of guns in any of the categories, 4 is all you get. What is also retarded is the way reality is depicted here. Enemies will do TONS more damage if they run over and kick you than they do if they hurl rockets down your throat. Pathetic at best.Would you like to Comment? Summary First of all when my friend told me this game was like MGS, I didn't think that could ever be possible since that game was so unique and well represented. When I played it, expecting it to be like Mission Impossible, I was stunned! The graphics were amazing, and if Winback: Covert Operations and MGS got into a fight, Winback would whip the crap out of MGS. hell yeah!!!Sound Great sound with footsteps, enemy shouts, and the soundtrack is worthwhile. C'mon your shooting people, the sountrack can't be upbea and cheery. I think Koei did a great job with this game and should encouraged to make a sequel.Gameplay The gameplay is downright addictive. It is hard and frusterating, but not because of play control or camera angles cuz those are perfect. Winback is just difficult. It is much more realistic than MGS and Perfect Dark as far as your and your enemie's life meters. This is the greatest shooting game ever!Would you like to Comment?
