Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. for Nintendo 64 Videos >>
Summary This has to be one of the classic games, ever. Especially on N64, especially baseball. Think about it, I'm writing this in 2002 and I'm still playing it. What alternative do I have? All-Star? It's full of bugs! The one bad thing is the lack of create-an-anything. Nothing! Oh, well. The fantasy draft is enough to keep me, happy. Go Sox! Go Bucs! Burn Yankees, burn!Sound Although there is no commentary, the occasional notes made by Griffey add, along with the crack of the bat and the roar of the crowd.Gameplay Excellent! Lovely! Excellent batting/pitching, even if the AI fielding is a bit, how shall I say, Milwaukee-like. Think about it, this game is from the '97 season. It's an awesome game. Think about the price. I got it brand-new for $10.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. It is really fun to do it with just twelve teams. Me and my friends play each other alot all season. I like the ablity to have injuries. It can really screw a player up if the lose some one good. Trading is fun to. I made my self an unbeatable team.Sound Sound is ok. But is a little slow to reaction of what is going on in the field. The crack of the bat sounds real as does the catching of a ball in the glove. The sound of a dive sounds funny to me.Gameplay Gameplay is fun with two to four people. One player gets kind of boring there is no challenge. Playing real people instead of the computer is funner but harder. I also think that that the catcher should throw the ball back to the pitcher. There should also be throwing errors.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. The games are long and you can't make them shorter so you really do have to use some real-life baseball strategy.Sound I am not big on sounds but the sounds in this game were very good. When you make contact with the ball you know that you just blasted it! When you catch the ball you will here the snap of the glove as clear as day. Excellent sounds indeed.Gameplay The gameplay of this game is great. I am not a fan of baseball and I still like to play it. There are all sorts of great codes to put in that will make the game even better. If you have any interest in video games you will like the gameplay of this one.Would you like to Comment? Summary i was disgusted with this game. it was boring no fun and lousy. personally i think your better off with elmo teaches the alphabet. i got this as a christmas present from my dad because he knows i like baseball. as far im concerned i may as well take it back. its a piece of junk collecting dust in my game cabinet. they only way to make the game interesting is to use my wheel on it yet that sucks as well. graphics are weak but the sound is pretty good i have to admit but still it sounds like the announcer is on drugs. the first day i got the game my dad came to watch me play it and noticed that i wasnt hitting the ball. he said that i have to at leats try to hit the ball. i mentioned that the chances of a person hitting the ball are not very good. that was a year ago and im still dissapointed about the way i cant hit the ball. when a good gamer does hit the ball the chances of him making it to first base are slim even if the ball is hit to the outside fence. i was really dissapointed with this.Sound sound could have changed the game to a 1.5 on my rating system if it wasnt for a pothead announcer and the same bloody music over and over and over again. the crowd sounds like a bunch of hyperactive toddlers and and the rest of the team sounds like they just came out of a moshpit. the batter doesnt say or do anything he just stands there. when you pissed off at the batter and intentionally hit him with the ball he just stands there and doesnt say anything.Gameplay as i said up above this game play sucks. the only way to get a homerun is by batting with ken griffey. im a yankees fan and this was almost offenceve. In my oppionion tino martinez can out bat griffey every day of the week.in this game if tino comes within contact of the ball im amazed. like i said before nothing good in this gameplay.also i thought that a person is not as fast as the ball when thrown this game proves me wrong. the other team manages to run like the wind. picking them off never works and striking them out is once and a while. like i said up abve your better off with elmo teahces the alphabetWould you like to Comment? Summary Okay if you're desparate for a baseball game. Gameplay is good, graphics are okay, the sound can be downright annoying. One good factor: There is a level for anyone. Little five year olds can play the home run derby easily (how many they hit is another story) and experienced gamers can be challenged by the all star level. Also, there are times when this game severaly lacks realism. You win the world series and the players walk off the field like any other game. Only when they get to the dug out do they read the box score, realize they won, and charge the field celebrating! Sound Worst part. The fans cheer and boo, but do so with a DELAYED reaction. They cheer when the home guy smacks the ball, but it takes a while for those cheers to become boos when it turns out to be a double play. The next guy is up to bat, and the crowd just then figures out what happened the play before and starts to boo! LOUSY.Gameplay This is pretty good. But don't let the computer control the base runners. They don't run very intelligently and will cost you some outs.Pitching is good, lots of options. Would you like to Comment? Summary If you complain about how the N64 has too many kiddie games, this is for you. A true game for experts. My only reason for not giving it the 5th star is that some simple ideas weren"t hammered out. For example, my friend and I are playing a season, so we trade the cart back and forth everyday at work. But, you can"t access season mode unless enough controllers are in the ports for the numbers of players you are using. My friend only has 1 controller, so we have to actually trade my controller everyday along with the cart! Sheesh!Sound Somehow, they managed to cram a ton of sounds into this game! All the players have their names individually spoken. The crack of the bat is very nice! The umpires actually sound pretty good. The announcer also is quality. Little touches, like the occasional police siren, overhead jet, or*tugboat* in San Francisco, can even be heard! The crowd will cheer and boo at apporopriate times. They definitely paid attention to detail here! Gameplay There are 3 difficulty settings for exhibition and world series play (rookie, veteran, all-star). All-star is pretty tough even for someone who has played it a lot. However, a "secret" diffculty setting exists, for the playoffs at the end of a season. Its even harder than all-star, be warned!Season mode is interesting in that you don't set the difficulty level, it just gradually gets harder over time. Hitting is the biggest difficulty. You need to be patient on the harder settings. I find that extra an extra split-second longer to swing than I want to helps greatly. Pitching is not so bad. Throw lots of breaking pitches away. It will practically eliminate any chance of the computer hitting HRs. Play your fielders shallow, because you will be able to run down 95% of the balls over your head, but at regular depth a lot of balls will fall in for bloop singles. Would you like to Comment? The hitting has a very steep learning curve.Sound Sometimes the sound gets distorted. Very buggy and just annoyingGameplay Initially, the game isn't much fun in the one player mode. It's difficult to get the hang of the hitting, and very frustrating. The computer also seems to cheat a bit, by always having fielders in posistion to make a play, and always hitting to where your fielders are not. The two player mode is better, and usualyy fun, especially with made-up players.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
