Any rpg with real time battles is good in my opinion. Think of this game as zelda 64 with pre rendered backdrops. Its a good game. I'm going to give this game a 5 overall, but that doesn't mean it's perfect.Sound Sound was great. Everything was crisp and easy to hear. You might have to adjust the music volume so you can here the conversations though. All conversations are spoken and not done in text. This is great, and the wonderful voice acting adds a ton to the game itself.Gameplay Controls are pretty good. Kind of complicated, but good. If the character models were larger, it would make the gameplay flawless though. Long distance attacks such ass ice sword can get tough to use in batlle, but normal swords and axes are easy and effective to use. The chracters are easy to move around, but they could have run a little bit faster.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Silver is one of the first traditional RPG's for the DC. Its reception on PC was lukewarmn at best, though many critics claimed this was unfair and underrated. I love RPG in all of its many incarnations, so let's see This Gamer's Opinion....Thebasic plot is very simple, Good Guy's wife is kidnapped, Good Guy joins forces with motley crew of warriors, sorcerers and the Elderly to get her back. Good Guy fights and uses a variety of magic and weapons along the way. Ho-Hum. Sound Now this is something! The sound chip on Dreamcast is great anyway, and it really shows here. Crisp sword clashes, wonderful speech, decent sound effects and a really pleasent score make this game an aural delight.Shame about the rest, though :-) Gameplay The gameplay is by turns great and frustrating. The ability to switch between different characters at certain points, as well as the ability to control different party members at any point, is a refreshing twist. A flick of the shoulder button and you can play in a totally different style. The controls are intuitive and the menu sytem is quite easy to navigate. On the down side, with as simplistic a storyline as we have here, this can sometimes lead to feeling like it's a game on rails....The frustration comes in the form of the graphics. The pre-rendered backdrops are quite pretty, but nothing we haven't seen on PlayStation Final Fantasy games before. The characters, too, are TINY (we are talking seriously small here) and this does interfere with the gameplay. What's the point of having a character on level 4002 with super powers to rival Miss Lynda Carter in Wonder Woman if you can't make out his hands?? This will definitely hamper your enjoyment of the game. All in all, the gameplay is solid, fluid and enjoyable, but can be a real bitch to use a lot of the time. Would you like to Comment? Summary Its an action rpg where hark and dismay an evil guy has stolen all the women to look for his next wife and its up to you to save them your wife included and take out the evil guy and his son. The originality just floors me lol.Sound This is where the game excells. Every conversation is done with real voice and the acters are some of the best ive heard in a game. Music is also done very well it truly puts you in the game to bad the tiny characters pull you back out just as quick as the music puts you in. Overall if you find this game cheap enough pick it up and see if you like it but at full price or over 25 bucks buy something else there are better rpgs out there for the dc.Gameplay Wonder around a beautifully prerendered landscape hacking up your enemies as you go. Find stuff eat stuff kill stuff repeat.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I would have to say this is the worst title to ever be released on the DC. From the cover and display on the back of the case, I said this game could have potential, but after placing the disk in my DC, all those thoughts went right out the window.Sound Almost the worst ever. I mean it's no Centipede, but definately not Final Fantasy. This would have to be the only saving grace for the game though. To bad no one buys games just to listen to the soundtrackGameplay The game play is just annoying. You are given no direction of what to do or where to go. At the same time you only have two choices, right or left. 90% of your time is spent listen to terrible cut scenes that try to build plot. The camera angles are so bad and they change so often, after the first 10min I was ready to break the disk. Oh have fun on the first boss you have to defeat. Talk about no clue on what to do!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. I love it so much. I would buy it for 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000.00$.Please buy this game its way worse than Skies of Arciadia and Grandia II. Im just so excited for the next 4000 Silver games they make. Sound I like this Mid-evel sound move then any other RPG I have ever played. This game has lots of great points but could have been better. It will take time to beat without players guide. I liked this more than Zelda II 64 MM and D2. They should have made moer than a couple of songs though.Gameplay Great I can play this game for hours. Just like Skies of Arcadia or Grandia II. If you see this game under $20 its a deffenit buy, but if you dont its not even worth buying for over $35.00.I like this more than FF7, but less than FF9. If you are wanting a game for the holidays get Tony Hawk II or Spawn: In the Demons Hand. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I rented this game in hope that it would be better on the DC than it's original release on the PC.Damn, this game still really sucks. Not worth even a rental IMHO. Biggest problem is the size of your character and difficult control on the prerendered background. This game is a waste of CD materials. Sound Nice voice acting, but where the heck are the environmental sounds i.e. MUSIC, birds, etc???Terrible - there is no music at all, only the tacky clashing of swords and battle. Gameplay Similar to Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation, except the combat is in real time mode, meaning it's button mashing. The opening movie is absolutely pointless. A terrible sequence that makes you watch 10 mins of a computer generated book shelf - WOW. I couldn't watch the whole thing because it was so damn BORING. This is a terrible "RPG" that should be quickly forgotten. One of the worst I've ever experienced. Would you like to Comment? Summary This is truly a great game. I just purchased the DREAMCAST system 3 weeks ago after fracturing my collarbone. Im really into RPG's,so i bought Evolution. Its okay, but not addicting enough. Then 3 weeks later i bought Silver, and I havent been so amazed about a DREAMCAST game since NBA2k. This game is great looking in every way.Sound I love the sound. I like how instead of reading what someone is saying, u listen to them. It's a really nice concept.Gameplay The gameplay is great. You can go anywhere you want to. The fighting system is different from other RPG's,but fun. Im not sure how many hours of gameplay there are,but i hope its more than Evolution. If your looking for a good RPG right now, purchase Silver.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary THIS REVIEW IS FOR PEOPLE WITH GAMING IN THEIR BLOOD: Silver is a medieval RPG cast in a world torn by the boilerplate battle between good and evil. Battles occur in real time, a nice evolution, and the inventory interface is of a fascinating, new type. Brushed in outstanding rendered graphics, Silver begins to show the possibilities that the Dreamcast offers for a future rich in RPG games. The game rates a 10 compared to all other DC RPGs, but a 7 when compared to what this game could have been.Sound As all reviewers atest, the voices-acting is phenomenal, though visually the characters are caricatured marrionettes betraying more designer driven impulse than emotion. The background music is cinematic and suits the settings appropriately.Gameplay Gameplay consists of three elements: character-character interaction, character-time interaction, and character space interaction. For those of us who began this trip with Pong, we have seen these qualities gradually improve with the technology inherent in each platform. Silver pushes the envelope on character-character ("CC") interaction, literally forcing the storyline in certain directions in a certain time code. While this is minimally required of all RPGs, Silver seems a bit unwieldy offering less freedom of character interaction than previous platform's RPG's. The character-time level is outstanding in battle but poor in that sequential activity is forced much as the original Zelda. Character-space is the worst of the three. Although the game allows rapid movement via map, the map is small and contrived of few discrete elementals. An open space platform would greatly complement the game's outstanding real time efforts.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I bet alot of people think that since I only played the game 5 hours, I am not qualified to reveiw it. However I have only turned the game on three times. I just began to play and couldn't stop, only to eat, sleep and, well, write this review. I have the game rented and these 5 hours are on the first night! So, as you can see, the game is very, very ADDICTIVE!Sound And on to the sound. Oh, my god. That's how I would describe it. There are hundred' of characther's and each has his/her own specific voice. Whether it's Silver's sinister laugh or David's defiant sppeches, you will find nothing wrong here. The music is also good as it helps to set the errie mood, but you'll be so focused on everything else, you may not even know the beauty behind the music.Gameplay The game play is the best of any Dreamcast RPG, and while that's not saying much, it ranks in my book with games like Final Fantasy and, yes, the almighty Zelda. The bosses range in difficulty as the game progresses and each enemy and boss has different stratagies to beat to beat them. It may take awhile to learn the controls in the heat of battle, it is not to difficult to bring the game down.Would you like to Comment? Rating Reviewed By NightwarriorFrom Somewhere out there Review Date 07/28/2000 Overall Rating ![]() 4 of 5 Rate this review? Summary Silver is a good RPG. I got it yesterday and for thosecomplaining about not finding a DC RPG, well here ya go. Play for a while and you'll like it no doubt. The graphics are rendered but beautiful, the voices and sounds are nice, and the gamplay is very original. A pretty good effort for the Dreamcast's first RPG. Sound Sound: 9- The voices are excellent and you also have the option of text. The sounds are decent, but I wish you could hear footsteps better. Then again, you NEVER hear footsteps in an RPG these days. Gameplay Gameplay: 7- I like the control because it is real-time! It can be a pain trying to find exitssince the camera doesn't zoom in. But the control is very innovative and VERY MANUAL compared to your average RPG. Certain movements can determine certain sword thrusts to your enemy. I HATE RANDOM BATTLES. Would you like to Comment? Summary This game is cool. Like an adventure game, this grand tale is presented at the outset to create a clear purpose, and then each major plot point hinges on the accomplishment of a deed. In this case that deed is usually killing an end-level boss. The structure is entirely linear, and absent are the chance battle encounters that are the norm in RPGs. The standard character stats of an RPG are here, but they are fixed, and only increase at the end of each level, only according to the predetermined script. So, the absence of experience points that can be distributed and the lack of chance encounters eliminate the RPG gameplay dynamic of fighting numerous small battles in order to gain experience points and build a stronger character. For a whopping total of three adventures, David can add people to his party all of whom can be controlled individually. When controlling one party member, the others blindly follow and are all but useless in a fight, usually standing motionless unless attacked. Because the battles require your full attention and all your action game skills while you choose from a number of melee, range, and magical weapons.Sound The first time playing this was in a demo and i thought the voices didn't match the game but now I know why. The cool this though is the awesome sound track and excellent sound effects while playing this game.Gameplay The game is a whole lot of fun, despite not living up to its full potential. Give Infogrames and Spiral House a couple of extra months, and they would've had an even better game.Would you like to Comment? Summary I am not a big RPG fan, however, out of curiousity I purchased Silver. I am really impressed by the game. Great graphics, sound, storyline, and realtime combat have kept me interested in solving the game for about 2 weeks now. If Silver has done anything for me, it's got me interested in a whole new gender of gaming....the RPG.Sound I'm not a big fan of background music. If I can't shut it down, I usually zone it out. Silver's sound is pretty good. The music basically sounds near the time period of the game, changing with the scenes.Gameplay I can't complain here. Gameplay seems to be excellect for my first real try at an RPG. If anything, I'm experiencing too much of running back and forth, but that may patially be my fault.Would you like to Comment? Summary The only Dreamcast RPG in America worth playing. Evolution, Evolution 2, Time Stalkers...YAWN. You play a young man named David who goes to save his world and his wife from the clutches of the evil sorcerer Silver. If you are not sure about forking over approximately $40 for the game, pick up the June/July issue of Official Dreamcast Magazine for the demo (Magazine and GD-ROM are $8.00). Well, read on and perhaps I will sway or reinforce your opinion.Sound Music is top notch and goes with the environment PERFECTLY.Gameplay Gameplay is excellent!!! Seeing a realtime combat-based RPG is so refreshing. Facing tons of enemies at once adds a lot to gameplay, makes it more exciting. The only complaints about gameplay is when you are in places with 20-30 people in them (REALLY) there is a bit of slowdown but it doesn't really effect actual gameplay, just thought I should mention it. Also, the story is pretty generic but the game is still enjoyable so that doesn't bother me too much.Would you like to Comment? Great graphic prerendered backgrounds, fun battle system , and fairly decent story, plus excellent voice overs all add up to a neat experience.Sound Good music, awesome voice acting add to the game creating a nice medievil backdrop. Fun game, finally a worhty RPG on the Dreamcast.Gameplay If your into huge micro management, create weapons from combining 9 billion inane crystals type deals, Silver is not for you. If your into equipping a weapon and shield then heading out to explore and kick some tail then this game is for you. Combat is in real time, you actually control your sword swipes using the analog stick. It takes some getting used to but once you do it becomes a blast. Don't fret RPG lovers, this is a RPG. You explore, meet and talk to a plethora of people(some joining your party), find new weapons, potions, etc. Just think skin and bones RPG elements mixed with fun game play that is Silver.Would you like to Comment?
