Sound

The sound wasn't half bad, except for the fact that he talks waaaay too much. I mean, I could see him mouthing off every once in a while but ever person he beats he got something to say.

Gameplay

The gameplay is good. You could do a whole bunch of combos and stuff. You could punch and kick in the air. They have a lot of different ways of webbing to the ceiling, the wall, and the sky. I hated the fact that outside building you could land on the floor. I beated this game in just a few hours, it was way too easy. It gets tired a little too quick. The gameplay was great, it wouldn't have much more to do with that, I mean, what else could they do, they did have a lot of combos and stuff. This game is mighty short though, I beated it in about 8 hours of gameplay, which would be 1 day if you turn it on and off.

Sound

NO! NO NO NO! Usually i get in trouble for humming songs from video games during math class. These tunes were gladly forgotten after i shut off the game. They are annoying after a while and there are not many if i remember right. Anyway the voice acting was fair, better than some of the PS2 games. But come on, atleast make this game have some catchy tunes.

Gameplay

Yeah, this is really cool at first, but it gets to repetive. The game is pretty short, i beat it in about 4 hours. This really ticked me off because i payed Fifty bucks for a game i could have just rented for $5 or whatever they cost i dont rent games much. But there is just one simple reason why i think the gameplay is poor: You do the same thing over and over. Swing around and chase the green goblin. Fight the green goblin. Chase him again, fight him again, blah blah blah. no fun. And the cheats are kind of cool but they arent that neat. It was kind of funny when you make spider man into Mary Jane and at the end when they kiss it looks lesbian. Well i am sorry all you crazy fans of this game but the gameplay just didnt stand out to me.

Sound

The sound is good, but my wife won't let me play this in the front room with surround sound because she is mean. She mumbles something about how long are you going to play this and you can't hog the TV. My bedroon T.V. sounds like a Crack-O-Matic radio.
Where's the love, woman?
Actually, I owe Trading Spaces a debt of gratitude for keeping her busy, so I could care less about the sound so far. I will be playing this in surround sound soon now that I don't "need to finish one more level".
I give it a 4 rating only because I have no idea what it shoulod be but it probably is going to be as nice as the rest of the game has been.

Gameplay

Excellent gameplay. The camera works for what you want it to do. I read that some call the camera angle clunky and at times difficult. Well yes, you can't always see who you are fighting and at times you have to figure out where to turn and you get confused, however, that to adds "realism" to a comic book fantasy. If I were a web-slinging super-hero, I doubt that I would always know where I was and there would be confusion as to which angle to take fighting:
A) a flying Vulture
B) a horde of attack robots
C) a maniac in an exoskeleton on a flying glider.
Of course, I can only speak hypothetically, being that I am not, and never have been, a superhero. I like the confusion in many ways. I requires you to learn your moves and try different techniques to escape your present troubles. As you do the camera angles play less and less a problem.
What I am saying is, some of you who don't like the camera angles, suck at playing Spiderman so go play Britany Spears dance game like the pansies you are.
For instance, stealth plays an important part in some levels. You can't punch your way thru. Others require you fight and you need to know what can and can't do in a specific situation.
My favorite part are the air battles. I played the game with a buddy and we both took our turns repeatedly beating the Vulture. The levels you fight in the air are worth the price of the game.

Summary

THE TRUE REVIEW TO SPIDERMAN I BASE MY SCORES ON A 1-10 SCALE

Now personally, i hate spiderman, but for some reason i rented this game, and to be honest, i was quite impressed. The game had an ok story with good graphics, the mini games were cool, and the flying through the city thing was a nice touch. My only real complaint was it was too easy, i beat it in one day. So im happy i didnt buy this game, but it is a good game.

You can climb on walls, fight thirty people at once, fight bosses, and even play some stealth becuase of the "Super Robot" things or whatever they were. Its not a great action game but it puts a bunch of things together to make a solid game. Action, fighting, shooting, stealth, strategy, and whats a good game without some bosses, and the boss levels were very creative.

I was quite disappointed with the last level because it was way too easy, but some of them were quite tough, like that one whee you had to go up the stairs took me a few tries.

Graphics-9.5
Smooth, Non-Choppy graphics were nice. The people looked cool and so didnt spiderman. I also liked the design to the train level where you had to switch from each side. Everything looked nice in this game.

Gameplay/Control-9
The controls were tough at times because there were so many different things you could do, but they got the job done. I also liked the story even though im not a spiderman fan. The bowling game was cool too, with the bad guys wrapped in the spider webs. Very Creative.

Sound-7.5
The music was ok. But the sound effects needed some more work.

Fun Factor-8.5
I found this game to be very fun in the few hours that i played it.

Replay Value-HIGH
After you beat this game, you will still go back and play a few of the levels that were fun.

Frustration Factor-Some
Even though the gamme ran smoothly, a few of the robot levels got annoying because if you made just one mistake you pretty much had to restart the whole level.

Challenge-3
I beat it in one day.

GOOD POINTS
-Some really cool moves and added features
-Boss levels were cool
-Graphics!

BAD POINTS
-Way too easy

Overall-9
This was a great game in many differnt ways.

Recommend-BUY IT you have to buy this game. or find some way to play it.

Sound

the sound was pretty good. when you punch or kick someone the sound of the strike will rotate, but that is just like all games that have striking in it. i like the little music in the background when you r playin the game. it kinda gives you a more intensified feel when you r playing. when i was creepin up on some thugsi heard someone talking and i thought it was someone trying to brake in my house. and around here you gotsa be careful at night, but it turned out it was the people in the game talkin. they dont talk much, when they do it is too real.

Gameplay

the gameplay had me playing through the gun shots and police sirens around my neighborhood. i was so into the game i forgot to go to work and pick up my check. though when you are web slingin through the city there are some limits, but it takes a while to reach the limit. when you play you can combos as if you were playing a fighting game. i didnt expect all that for a spider man adventure game, but it happend and i am impressed. there are so many secret places that i didnt have enough time to find 1/4 of the secrets. this is a gme for people who like real challenges in video game, but if you are not one of them then jus tput it on easy mode so you can stand a chance against the thugs in that crazy city. this is definatly the next purchase on my list.

Sound

The sound was perfect, though there was not great music, it always fit beautifully with the scene. The fact that they went to the trouble of getting the actors voices for the game was really cool, and having Bruce Cambell smarting off during the game was fun. The fighting and webbing sounds were a perfect match, and even the crowds on the streets below had something to say.

Gameplay

The controls are outstanding, with all of Spiderman's powers, and plenty of cool combos. The story follows the movie fairly close, but the story is good none the less. It keep you interested and involved through the game, and at the same time it is not impossable to beat. The range in combat styles and play are tremendus, ranging from arieal combat and web slinging to sneaking aound trying not to be spotted. The controls are easy to pick up, and fun to master. Also there are many codes to change gameplay to a new level.

Sound

The sound is good, a great veriety of effects, and the explosions are good. The best thing is Toby and Willian Deffo both put their voices in to the game, although Toby doesn't really sound like he put his heart in to it. It's not bad, but when he's about to get run over and barely dodges an upcoming car, and says "Yikes" in a flat, lifeless tone it just makes it sound stupid, other then that it's great!

Gameplay

One thing I can say about the gameplay for certain is that's it's totally brilliant. Now we have a chance to experience life through the eyes of Spider Man. Most superhero based games turn out crap, like Super Man for the N64 *shudders*, but the Spidey games have all been good. One reason for their success is the fact that they actually offer you the ability to use Spider Man's powers. This might sound weird but in other hero games you don't really have access to the hero's special abilities. The game is fast paced and offers a great deal of veriety during missions. There are levels where you swing about high above the streets of NY, and in others you are inside ware-houses and subway stations, which are in no way as fun. This means that the game is primeraly split in two, the fun outdore levels that offer frantic action 200 floors high, and the cramped in-door levels that limit your movement and speed. Saying that, I don't mean that the levels inside are totally crap, they are good, just not as fun as the outside ones. The controls are well thought of and easy to learn, there's no real issues here. As for the camera, people say it's bad but I found no problem, if you spend 10 minutes enjoying the game rather then criticising it, you won't experience any real problems.

Summary

(Prior apologies to Columbia Studios and Spiderman director Sam Raimi for butchering the film's opening script.)

Did I really like Spiderman? You sure you wanna know?

This review is not for the faint of heart. If somebody told you that this was another in a long line of horrible movie-based games, nothing but a shady attempt at a few extra dollars following the movie's release...somebody lied.

This, like any other review worth writing, revolves around a developer. That developer is Treyarch, a newbie to the Spidey universe. I'd like to tell you it's Capcom that's publishing this game. Heck, I'd even take Acclaim.

But alas, it's Activision, the vicious mutants responsible for creating and milking the evil Tony Hawk cash cow for all its worth. It makes sense, I guess; Activision published the wallcrawler's two PSOne outings, so I guess securing the rights to the movie license was a logical move on their part. I'm just glad Spidey doesn't ride a board in this game....

Anyway, all script-butchering aside, the latest Spiderman game actually does the property it's based on justice. It does so for a number of reasons--solid controls, a nice presentation tailored to the film and an overall feeling of excitement and adventure--though this game is nowhere near perfect.

To capitalize on the movie that has caught all of Hollywood in its multimillion dollar web, Spiderman the game features the voices of Tobey Maguire (Spidey himself), Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin) and Bruce Campbell (our hilarious narrator). Their performances, while not Oscar-worthy, are certainly worth merit, and let's face it, Campbell's so badass he can make pretty much anything rock the house.

Visually, Spiderman is strong, but not perfect. Naturally, the PS2 version is the worst-looking of the three (GameCube and Xbox are more powerful machines...duh!) and while there are a few shortcomings (read: more jaggies and a little slowdown), things are relatively nice.

The colors are vibrant, the animation is smooth, the character models well-rendered. New York City has never been depicted so nicely in a game before, as the city literally bustles with life and activity as you swing hundreds of stories above.

However, within the aesthetics lies my main gripe regarding this game: the inconsistent camera. While it is drastically improved from Spidey's first PSOne outing, there are still instances where the camera is impossible to deal with. Sometimes it'll get stuck behind a wall, blocking your vision, but most of the time it stops at an angle that doesn't let you get a good view of a ledge you need to get to or an enemy trying to lop off one of you legs. More than a few times you'll find yourself stuck or dying because of the wild, erratic camera.

Camera issues aside, Spiderman plays very well. Treyarch gives fans the best of both worlds, keeping the best features of the PSOne original while implementing some innovation. Those who played the PSOne original should feel right at home with this game; a lot of the mechanics are identical.

Unlike previous Spidey incarnations, this game spices things up a bit, so not every mission involves you running around beating bad guys to a pulp. A good many levels require some stealth (yes, Metal Gear Solid 2 has started a trend...), and you'll find yourself protecting and saving people more often than not. I'm particularly fond of this aspect of the game because Spidey is a superhero, one who has sworn to protect the public. Kudos to Treyarch for understanding this important, but often overlooked, aspect of the Spiderman universe.

Perhaps the best (and most innovative) feature of the game though is the aerial missions, where you control our friendly neighborhood wallcrawler high above the streets of New York City, swinging and fighting your way through whatever's thrown at you. Treyarch could've made the entire game in the sky above New York and I would've been really happy. As it is, this feature does a nice job of introducing new gameplay mechanics and breaking up the monotony of the indoor missions.

Spidey has been given a good number of moves to use, and the total number of possible combos (roughly 30 or so) allows for some freedom on the part of the gamer and helps keep the fighting from becoming boring and repetitive. This is good, considering fighting's pretty frequent here.

This game, while a 3-D platformer of sorts, offers a lot of variety, and in today's market overrun by short, repetitive action games, finding a game with a little depth is refreshing. Even more refreshing is the fact that this game is based on a popular license.

In fact, Treyarch does what few developers can--they use the license to enhance the game, not to merely rake in a few extra dollars. Spiderman fans will love some of the touches put into this game, and everyone else will appreciate the solid gameplay...even if the camera does give them the occasional headache.

Yes, the Xbox version throws in two extra levels and has nicer graphics. So the GameCube version might load just a wee bit faster. The PS2 version is still selling better (hey, whaddya know? Game Informer was good for something after all...hehehe...), but that's most likely due to the console's larger installed base. Regardless, PS2 Spiderman is an excellent, solid game worth your time, whether you like the franchise or not.

Breakdown:
CONTROLS: 4/5
DEPTH: 4/5
REPLAY VALUE: 4/5
ORIGINALITY: 4/5
FUN FACTOR: 4/5
GRAPHICS: 5/5
SOUND: 4/5
OVERALL (NOT AN AVERAGE): 4/5

BOTTOM LINE:
Treyarch was given great power with the Spiderman license, and they took great responsibility in creating a wonderful, if slightly flawed, game.

Sound

the voice acting of toby macgwire and william defoe are mediocre. some of the things spider-man says are funny, but most are just annoying. the goblin is very evil like he should be. the other voices are all right, but not great. the web swinging and zipping is excellent. you even hear the twip.

Gameplay

you get to play as Spider-man with all of his web moves. this includes domes, gloves, balls, and pulling bad guys towards you. you can web swing and web zip. everything. this game has it all. if you beat the game on hero, you get to play as the goblin with the board and all. this adds life to the game. the best thing has to be the aerial fights. they will blow your mind. you can land on the goblins board, give him some punches and swing away. the outdoor levels are awesome. the bad thing is that there aren't a lot outdoor levels. most are inside and boring. you don't want to play spider-man inside. you want to be out on the streets swinging around. and the stealth missions are terrible. if you get caught (and you will) it basically means your death.

Sound

Yeah, yeah, they got the two big actors, whoopdeedoo. Spiderman himself can get annoying, though sometimes he's funny, and Green Goblin is...well...comic book villain-esque. But the two primary factors to the game are the Amazing Orchestral Music and Bruce Campbell. BUY THIS GAME

Gameplay

Well, the first I did was reluctantly start training, kind of annoyed at how many things there were to go through. But the Glory, Bruce Campbell of The Evil Dead, was the training instructor! That got me interested, and as I went through everything (Trust me, you REALLY want to go through it all. It helps so much.) Aerial stunts are a bit tricky to learn, but, believe me, the battle with Vulture in the storm, and especially the tight battle with Goblin, pay off. Fighting is great, especially with the combos, but the Aerial Battles are the icing on the cake. If there was one annoying aspect, it was the stealth missions. I still don't entirely understand how they determined when you were "invisible" or not, which frequently got me killed. I think it was the Spiderman Bowling Minigame that was the greatest, though. The game doesn't take itself seriously at all, which is refreshing.

Sound

Great, especially when I'm blasting it through my surround sound and the sub woofers. Even through the little speakers in my TV it was great. The music really adds emotion to the game, as with most movies. The music stays identical with the motion picture.

Gameplay

The Gameplay is very simple, if you want to play simple. If you try to memorize all the different combos of attacks it gets quite complicate, but you really don't need to know any of them unless you're Bruce Lee. The only reason I really graded it down on this subject was because of its fighting controls while in the air. It's Very hard to sling punch and kick while web slinging. You are pretty much forced to use webbing to wrapp up an airborne enemy. Another draw back is when you web sling and accidentlly climb onto a building, very annoying in the timed and chasing levels.

Sound

The voice acting of spifer-man is done by the guy in the actualy movie, Tobey Maguire i think, which is suprising, because he doesn't really have the comical spider-man voice which any good old spider-man fan will expect. He also says the same thing a lot of times, which is annoying. That said, the voice acting is pretty good. The music also is nice at first but kinda gets on your nerves after a while.

Gameplay

First, the goods of the gameplay. Spider-man can use a variety of moves to defeat his enemies. You can learn more moves by finding golden little spidey icons. This adds a great deal of fun as you beat up thugs as bosses through the game in the fightin style of your choice. There are also a lot of other moves which include your web that are a great addition to the game. A thing must also be said for the out door levels. Its great how you can swing around and if you've played any of the old spider-man games you know swinging around was kind of a hassle. Web swinging in this game is made easy and you actually feel as if you have some control over where your going. The camera lock feature also makes the outdoor levels a lot more comfortable. The bosses in the game are also really smart. They can actually start predicting you moves if overused. wheni first saw this i thought it was a glitch, but he did it over and over again and i realized how much effort was put into this a.i.
Now the bad, the camera angles, arghh. On some indoor levels you will fight many thugs and such, and it would have been pretty easy if you actually knew that they were there. The camera angles actually cripple you to an extent that you wont be able to see where and bad guys are. So in the end you will be spending a lot fo your time trying to see where they are when they are getting in some hits. It is so annoying that i just wanna throw my controller at the screen trying to injure the bad guys I couldn't see. The thugs aren't very smart though, if there is a wall in between you and the enemy the thugs will stay in the wall. Not a sign of quality designing, but im not complaining, it kinda made bad camera angle not so bad by having dumb thugs.
