Sound

Sound is awesome, unless you absolutely cannot stand rap. If you like rollout, then you're all set, just repeat that song. There are about 23 songs in the game, almost all of them are good. There are also a bunch of music videos you can watch.

Gameplay

The first time you play this game you will think, bad purchase. Totally untrue, do not go with your instinct. Play it for about 2 or 3 days and then make that decision. You play with street ballers doing actual street moves that don't always work. Defense is not hard but it is not easy either, you cannot go up and back somebody like you can in street. You can pac people every once in a while, which is good, it makes it more of a challenge. You can also steal balls pretty reguarly if you time it right. Alley oops are sweet when you connect. You press two buttons to lob the ball up and if the person connects it is awesome. Gameplay is fun and challenging, but definately not frustrating.

Sound

The music is good if you like rap. The soundtrack includes a lot of good songs from ludicris to DMX.

The sound effects are average, the ball dribbles, hits the backboard. Theres no real sound from the backround.

The announcer is cool at first but very quickly gets repetitive. He usually says something like "Do they ever get the ball and not score," "This isnt football," or "We dont want to see any lay-ups."

Final thought-The idea is there, but the time wasn't put into the game to make it what it could of been.

Gameplay

This is why the game was HORRIBLE. Theres so much to talk about so I think I'll just list it.

The only cool thing about the game is gambling. Theres many different things to gamble on, like winner, leader at half, most rebounds, most dunks, etc. Unfortunatley, its too easy to win because all you have to do is bet on most dunks.

WINNING
-----------------------------------------------
It takes absolutely no skill to win a game, basically just luck. Its so easy to score, and impossible to play defense. The only time the computer doesnt score is when they miss a shot (randomly, not because of your good defense) and you get a rebound (the computer got a rebound for you, not you because its pretty hard to time a jump to) or they throw a bad pass out of bounce.

The scores are usually very close, about within five points.
--------------------------------------------------

DEFENSE
--------------------------------------------------

You can slide your feet but its still virtually imossible to play defense. stealing the ball is so random, all you do is keep hitting Square and sometimes the ball will go flying. But be warned, attempting to steal the ball makes you stop for a second usually making it easier for your opponent to score. also, whenever your opponent is near the hoop they'll automaticall score usually, they'll usually just dunk it over you like your not even there.

When you knock the ball lose you can dive for the lose ball, this is cool, but its usually easier to just run after it because most of the time you'll just dive in the wrong direction.
--------------------------------------------------

JUMPING/REBOUNDING/BLOCKING SHOTS
-------------------------------------------------

Its kind of peculiar as to how these are the AND1 players who can do all the fancy dunks, but when your trying to block a shot or get a rebound, you can only get about half an inch off the ground.
Oh yeah, and when the developers were making the game they must of forgot about something called hang time because when you got up to block a shot, you dont stay up long enough to get you hands in the air, and the same goes for rebounding.
-------------------------------------------------

SHOOTING/DUNKING
--------------------------------------------------

if you are controlling a good player and your inside of the key just hit O and you'll either shoot and unblockable lay-up or an unstoppable dunk. So basically all you have to do is get the ball to your big man and he'll dunk it all game.

Alley-oops are also way to easy to get off (as long as there is someone on the receiving end to dunk of course.

THE ONLY THING THAT ISNT THAT BAD IN THIS GAME IS SHOOTING, ITS NOT PERFECT, BUT TOLERABLE, THATS RIGHT I SAID IT, SOMETHING IS FAIRLY GOOD ABOUT THE GAMEPLAY IN THIS GAME.
-------------------------------------------------

Also I thought I'd talk about fast breaks, THERE ARENT ANY!?! Once you're all alone going on a fast break the computer goes into super turbo mode or something, but they always catch up to you.

Sound

The sound is alright considerin you're not listening to the announcer or the players. They suck after 2 or 3 times of hearin them say the same over and over. The music videos by Cypress Hill and Xzibit are real good although a little out of place. The mixtapes that can be unlocked are also true to their original releases despite the nonsense gameplay you have to go through to unlock them.

Gameplay

Gameplay is nothing short of garbage. You got a wholle lotta moves that are scattered all on the controller and that take forever to even map out. The D will fall from almost any cross no matter how far away from you they are. It's impossible to rebound, even with a tall player. I'm sure the idea was there, but street ball is more about ballin skills first, all the jewelry, clothes, music videos(don't why there here) are extra fillers to add to gameplay.

Sound

well, the music is good because their real song, the players talk a little trash that gets annoying after a while and the announcer is just mad dumb,u cans ee the developers wanted 2 copy the announcer of nba street

Gameplay

the gameplay is mad corny no joke, the crossover are just ridiculous, way 2 easy 2 cross some1 over, rebounding is shxxt and near impossible, way 2 easy 2 steal since theirs no fouls .difficulty is just mad easy, the only highlight i give this game is dat it has hot dunks and dat it nuttin else.the other thing like i mentioned b4 is da fact that u can hook ur playas up with real brand name gear.actually ull spend most of ur time doing that then playing basketball itself.they have alot of brands 2 choose from like and1,seanjohn,ecko....Other things you can do that is pretty point less is get tattoos and buy ice 4 all ur crew.....oh yeah u can gamble 2(yawn)

Sound

The sound is incredible. If not for the music, Street Hoops would have nothing to showoff. The hip-hop artists in this game have stunned with their jovial music. DMX, Ludacrous, Master P, Method Man, and Cypress Hill all improve on a terrible game. The music is a great extra of this game. The beat of the freestyles really gets you into the mood for some b-ball action. But that's not the only thing good about the game. The ability to "diss" your defenders really puts a jolt into a nearly hopeless game. The announcer's voice could use hours of work on. I realize that Activision tryed make the game more realistic by putting echoes after an announcement is made to make the illusion that the announcer is talking right beside the court, but pretty soon you wish that was never part of the game. Soon after that, you want to kill the guy that thought up of the echo thing in Activision. The echoes put a lot of confusion into what the announcer's actually trying to say. The echo after everything makes it seem like he said a different name, or that one of your players was fouled instead of the other way around. That was one of worst things in the game. But that doesn't influence the quality of the sounds in this game. A still love the music and even though the announcer's voice is extremely shaky and the player voice's are the same way, the music is the only perfect thing in this game

Gameplay

I'll admit, Street Hoops has some succuess in simulating the ghetto, urban style of street ballers like Hot Sauce and Half Man, Half Amazing. Still, overall, it's a failure. In Street Hoopz, I thought the gameplay would be the most innovative thing of the whole game. Unfortunately, I was wrong about that too. In Street Hoops, the main goal is to make money and fiddle with your basketball players in tournament mode. You are allowed to bet on several different things to make more and more money. With that money, the player can buy different brands of clothes, cut a baller's hair, and stack him up with pimp jewelry. While that's fine and innovative, it overshadowed the true essence of the game: true street-ball action.

The game, to the say the least, is much too easy. The simplest moves can cause the A.I to trip over and fall leaving you a huge gap to drive into and slam the ball. The Mad Skillz mode, which changes all the functions of the buttons, is absolutely useless due to the fact the average gamer will never need to use them to get past the defense. The A.I has no sense of defense and provides absolutely zero competition. I wold say the best thing to do with this game is to invite several people over to make the game more interesting. I admit their are good things about the game when there are more than one player. The ability to choose full or half court and how many players you want on teams is a great feature to have. All-in-all, Street Hoops' gameplay leaves a lot to improve on. Once you get used to the shaky defense of the A.I. and the Mad Skillz mode, then Street Hoops can provide you with some solid hours of entertainment.

Summary

PLEASE DONT BUY

okay, i am a huge fan of basketball games.. and i was waiting for a awsome streetball game... i thought YES stree hoopz. but no i was wrong.. just as nba street dissapointed me. i mean with street hoopz (SHZ) to get $ all you need to do is bet that you have the most 3's in the game.. and then lose or whatever and get hella cash.. just keep doubling... and losing is very hard in taht game.. its soo easy to win. the tourny is gay. i didnt even care about the other courts. it was almost a knock off of nba live 2002. but slower and stupided... please dont buy it.. you should not give the creaters of this game any money ( by tthe way: hot sause.. your my hero.. your moves are off the hook and its too bad your included on a stupid game like this).

oh yea.. MAKE SUR EYOU GET NBA LIVE 2003.. Live is and will alwyas be the best basketball game aLIVE.!

Sound

If you like hip hop you'll love the sound track. If not, you better turn the music volume down.

Basketball sounds (shoe squeaks, reverb in enclosed courts, sound of chain nets at certain courts, etc) is really nice and adds a lot of realism, much better than a lot of other products. A little more ambient sound (car horns, planes, birds, etc) would have taken this over the top. But overall, this part is really cool. That familiar thump on those old metal post back boards is right on!

The conversation , crowd heckling, and trash talking are okay but could have been better. Commentary is too limited/repetitive to be called good. :)

Gameplay

A lot of the press reviews have panned the gameplay because it's not exactly like NBA Street. But, IMHO, Street Hoops really holds its own in the gameplay department. It's more of a simulation of street style basketball rather than a straight up basketball arcade game like NS was.

The jump timing for rebounds and blocks is different from NS and are not nearly as automatic as they are in NS, you have to remember to box out for boards and you have to actually be in position to block a shot unlike NS. You have to chase down the ball for a steal after it's knocked loose. Alley oops and 3's aren't automatic (as they should be). You can back down in the low post. Overall, the game looks and feels a real street ball game.

I do agree with people who have complained that the controls are not remappable and that they are not perfect. Esp, having the mad skillz overlap the shoot button which results in occaisional unintentional shots.

Summary

This is a great bastketball game filled with fun gameplay, good graphics, great music and sound effects, and lots of extras. The game also includes music videos from hot rap artists, videos of the real life street ballers and 3 And-1 mixtapes that you can unlock during gameplay. The game features liscenses from popular Hip-Hop clothing companies such as And-1, Sean John, Dada, and P. Miller to name a few, as well as music from rap artists such as DMX, Cypress Hill, Ludicris, and others. Actual streetball courts from around the US and real life street ballers are also featured in the game. Overall I find this game an excellent purchase. The gameplay will keep you hooked for quite a while and all the extras are just icing on the cake. If you're a fan of basketball, especially street style basketball, then this is the game for you.

Sound

The sound in this game rocks! It featues background music from real Hip-Hop artists complete with lyrics on some of the songs. The on-court sounds in the game are great. The bounce of the ball, the swish of the nets, the bricks off the backboard and rim, and the grunts and trash talking of the players are all crystal clear. The announcer featured in the game is cool but he repeats alot of the same phrases a bit too much during the games. I could nit-pick and say that the lyrics of the rap songs are edited, but I won't. This game features an excellent soundtrack that will keep your head bobbing while you're plaing.

Gameplay

The gameplay is very fast and the controls are quick and responsive. You can play single or multi-player full court 5 on 5, 4 on 4, and 3 on 3, as well as single or mulit-player half court 3 on 3, 2 on 2, and 1 on 1. The game also features two tournament modes: World Tournament where you travel across the US taking on teams on their home turf and Lord Of The Court where you chose your home court to defend and take on all challengers. These modes are where all of the extra goodies included in the game are unlocked. You can customize the fouls and on court rules for each game, and choose whether the games are timed or won on a certain score you reach. Before each game you can select to enter stores to buy clothing, shoes, jewelry, and other extras for you team players. You can also bet on each game you play using the money you recieve from winning games and even go to a barber shop to change your players hairstyle. The only complaint I have concerning the gameplay is that it's a bit hard to play defense. Other than that, the gameplay is dead-on!

Sound

the sound is incredible in this game. the music is great, it makes u wanna get ur game on. music from the top hip hop artists such as ludacris, xzibit, dmx, master p, method man, and a whole bunch of others. there is definately a lotta trash talking and commentary. the sound in this game is exactly what u would expect from a street ball game. it brings back the urban culture of street basketball.

Gameplay

there are more options in this game than in nba street. it ranges from half court games to full court games like 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 3, and so fourth. the players can perform different sets of cross-over moves, dunks, alley-oops, cool passes, etc. u can choose famous street ballers such as the future, hot sauce and headache. unlike nba street, two players can be on the same team. u can also customize ur players with different brand name clothes such as roc-a-wear, sean john, ecko, enyce,and-1, and a whole bunch of others. plus u can get a haircut, get tatoos, bet money on games, and a whole bunch of other stuff. the things u can unlock is unbelievable..u just have to get it for urself.

Sound

Sound is cool, should have a way to play your own line up in the music department. Other then that trash talk is pretty repetitive. They say the same thing all the time. Play by Play is not as good as Joe the Show. Those are small things when playing multi, but become major when you are playing against the computer.

Gameplay

Again, you can't compare it to NBA S. because it would not be fair and it's not an apples to apples comparison. First i'll talk about what it does right. Then I will talk about some of the weak points. Good: It does portray true street ball. This is where it shines over NBA S. NBA S. does not portray true street ball. Only the environment of street ball. Don't get me wrong NBA S. is my game, but only when I feel like doing the NBA thing or playing with NBA Players. I will now play this game. But when I feel like just balling I will pick up my Str Hoops. About 3 weeks ago we were pulling an all nighter (Game Fest) me and my boys. They had never played NBA S. but were reluctant to play because it did not have mulitplayer. Here is point number two. You can play up to 8 players CO-OP!!!! This is worth the purchase of the game alone. With two multitaps you can trully ball in the summer time. They play 2 halfs which are timed or you can play by score. This is another area where they got NBA S. Point number 3 you can throw your on ally's!!!!! Thats right if your man is breaking towards the baskets L-2 + triangle gets your man to throw an ally. He is what makes that move even better. The allys are not guranteed. If your man can't get there then the ball either goes in the air or out of bounds. I think you can throw and ally to your self because I have seen the computer players do it, but I have yet to do that. Oh, you can get goaltending, not like street where you can't get no jumpers to go down unless you fake someone completely out. So to compare the two in game play I would say because of multi and allys and backdowns, and turn and go's and give and go play calling. I would have to say that Str. Hoops has got NBA S. But now to the bad (Graphics)

Sound

Activision really captured street ball with the blazing beats. The biggest names in hip hop. Master P, Xzibit, DMX, Ludacris, and plenty more that make playing this game seem like an And1 mix tape. The music videos thrown in are also pretty tight. The only minor downfall is the ability to customize the tracks play order. Sound effects are well done also, from trash talking to cars and birds its all good. Overall I give the Sound Dept. a 5.

Gameplay

The gameplay is what makes the game. Fast street ball action who can complain (only slow sore losers). A.I. is a good challenge. This is one of the best multiplayer b-ball games cuz of the fast paced action. The gameplay is so good that you'll find yourself realy talking trash to your opponents when you break their ankles. I give the gameplay a 5.
