Sound

Aye Caramba....
sound is your typical background music.. not sure what to compare it to. Just regular kinda cheesy sound.

Gameplay

It's where it's at. This is the selling tool of the game. You can set tax rate, science research, and luxory rate. You have to keep a good balance between these to keep your people and keep them happy. Revolts happen...can't always make everyone happy. Anyways, you have to research to make your empire succeed and not fall behind others. You might have the biggest army but if an opponent has better technology most likely they can wipe you out with a few units. You have to watch out for everything... So many different factors will determine the game. You can be down one minute and start rising to be #1. When starting the game you get to customize it...as in how many race opponents, world size, difficulty level, etc. Gameplay is the MAIN reason why to buy/play this game. I get tired of it on occasion and move on to other games. but it somehow makes itself back into the rotation and plays on even though i've beat the game a 100 times...I can still get hooked into it and loose track of a couple hours in minutes.

Sound

I don't buy games for the sound. I usually have a radio or something else playing, so I'm not a very good judge in this category. I gave it a high rating simply because the game is so good.

Gameplay

The gameplay has everything. It has war, trade, government, economics, everything need in a great game. The only problem that I can see with the game is the military is a little hard to figure out whether or not you're going to win/lose when attacking a city. Sometimes I'll go into a little city with my bomber and their musketeers will destroy me and I can't quite figure out why/how. I've had the game since summer of '97 and just last weekend spent an entire day playing it. Even after four years of playing the game I still occasionaly get my ass kicked on the hardest level (Deity). If you don't have the game you must get it. You won't regret it.

Summary

I think this game is challenging and fun, however (having played CIVILIZATION, II, and III) I think some adjustments could be made: 1)having every "stacked" unit die when attacked is unrealistic, but having, say, 50 or so units on one grid is also unrealistic. there should be limitations as to how many units should be allowed on one grid square. 2)in CIVIII "call to power", you have the option during negotiations to do almost anything. I strongly dislike CIVIII but this is a good aspect of foreign relations. 3) it seems as though too many countries want to war with you and ally with each other to specifically get you rather than improving their own country's conditions. I've never lost to the computer economically or technologically. 4) Again, as in CIVIII, the game went on longer. until the year 3000A.D. If it didn't take nearly 2000 years to build something in III this wouldn't be so bad. a combination of II's graphics, and typical game time play scale and III's advancements in game improvements would make for a killer CIV IV. 5) Lastly, having played Civilization for over 5 years now, I've noticed a lot of good changes from CIV I to CIV II. But if there is one thing that doesn't seem to change TOO much, it's the motion graphics and natural disasters or lack thereof. Firstly, why not have some clouds or rain or fog passing over the screen (preferably on a doughnut world as in CIV III) or throw in an earthquake from time to time. All in all I think CIV II is the best of the three games, but still leaves much room for improvement.

Summary

This game are one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. You can sit hour after hour with it, and hardly notice that time goes, the only thing you think about is when your city is done building it's next wonder!
I have played this game for many years, all since it came out! And I enjoy it just as much now!
But as in many other games there are many things that need to be changed!
There are small things that just don't fit with the reality. For us which has been playing this game it could be made even more detailed and advanced, I think that, a 3D version where you could drive/waml around in your city, and see how it is the would be cool! And to participate in the battles as it's commander, not only to hear some sounds and one of the enemies winning at once.
But all in all it rules!
Sid: Your games are classics before they even hit the shops!
I've been playing several games from you, (Transport Tycoon, Gettysburg, and Civ 1) and all of them rules just as much!
Microprose: Your games rules, I have more games from you than I have from other companies! (UFO I & II, Transport Tycoon, Pizza Tycoon, Gettysburg, and many other cool titles!)
And one more time CONGRATULATIONS WITH A BEST-SELLER!
(I know many many many of my friends think so to!)
