Summary X-Men Next Dimension is a reasonably solid fighter and an excellent handling of the X-Men Franchise. While it lacks in certain areas that will bother avid fighting fans, its still a must-have for X-Men afectionados. The characters are cool, their movements are distinct and seem very like how you would imagine them from the comics. While some fighter fans might pass on the mediocre game play, every XMen fan should include this game in their collection.Oh, and I must add, that while they can't include every character, it was highly disappointing not to have Collosus or Iceman to play with. Sound The sound in this game completely fits play, underscoring the battles without taking over. While the voice acting is only so-so (with the exception of Patrick Stuart as Xavier) and the catch-phrases can get annoying after the 100th time you've heard them, I still believe this has one of the best fitting sound tracks of any game on the market.Gameplay Game play is a bit confusing at first and the manual does little to sort things out for you. At first it will feel like a simple button-masher but after a few hours of playing each characters individual style will start to develop for you. The controls are a little clunky, which is made worse by the GameCube controller. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's controllers and would rather use my wavebird over an Xbox or PS2 controller anyday, but the big buttons and the heavy R + L buttons don't lend themselves to fighters, which require quick motions from button to button.Would you like to Comment? The music is wonderful and thanks to Patrick Stewart for providing the voice of Prof X, who does most of the narrating.Gameplay I will be an Xmen fan until I die but I was expecting more from this game. I figured since it was on PS2 that it would involve more than just fighting. I was looking for some RPG but I did not get that. I was also looking for different types of characters such as Shawdowcat or Marrow but I did not get that either. They could expand on the next game if there is one. I love Xmen but I should have bought another game since the games are so expensive. The retailers should be aware that the majority of their customers are college students. Anyway, it is a good game but if it is not the best that it could be. The secret characters are no secret either. If you go into assets, you know who the characters are.Would you like to Comment? I've been throughly enjoying it. There's tons of moves....tons of super moves....and very strong game indeed. It's the best use of our favorite mutants that I've seen.Sound The sound is ok. This has never been a deciding factor in a game for me. My wife hates the music, but it doesn't bug me.Gameplay Gameplay...I'll agree it's very odd. The control set-up for the gamecube is the wierdest I've ever played. It's very difficult to adjust to, and it's what I think is the majority of everyone's beef with this game. I've been playing it for a total of 6 hours and I'm pretty used to it. And it doesn't nearly bug me as it did when I started. Just give it time. It is a different set-up.Would you like to Comment? Summary I'm glad I didn't buy it. My friend did though. This game wreaks of mediocrity and in some cases sub-mediocrity. I felt like I was playing a high rez PSone game underwater. In a world of Tekken 4 and Virtua Fighter 4. This game has no dukes. In short save your money. In long read on.Sound The sound was a collection of mediocre slaps and kicks and laser type zaps when a special move is implemented. The music sounds slightly inspired by the movies score yet remains uninspiring. It even cut off halfway through the fight some times to leave to fight (or ponder your purchase) for a good 6 seconds or so.Gameplay Once again the Cube controller shows itself to be unfit for most fighting game control scemes. I felt like I was playing it underwater. The characters reaction time was unreasonably slow. The sidestepping feature felt tacked on and slow. However I'm not sure if it was the game or the Cubes anti-fighter controller.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
